Baseball

This is a good read on his deferred pay -

I kinda wish they would put a limit on how far out they can defer these. Think it would help with the disparity of money spent with other teams. If they had to pay now or soon and it would affect their current product they probably wouldn't do this.

A salary cap would help with that too but I doubt that will ever happen at this point in baseball.

I saw on Reddit that the Colorado Rockies Owners net worth was $700 Million. Which kind of puts things into prospective.

I wonder how much Ohtani is going to have “stolen” by his interpreter in exchange for his interpreter taking the fall in this.

Serious question, how much would you need to get in order to agree to have your reputation ruined and have the most publicly notable, defining moment of your life that you “stole” millions from your close friend and a beloved international baseball star? I think I’d need like 5M+ because I can’t imagine being hired for a well paying job after that.

Are you thinking that there is a conspiracy? Isn’t it more likely that the interpreter was desperate due to gambling debts?

He’s covering for Ohtani, who has the gambling debts
I understand the implication I just haven’t seen anything but a bunch of people saying “of course he’s covering for Ohtani” on social media. My question is why is that the assumption? With Jordan and others there were lots of reports of gambling. I hadn’t seen any about Ohtani onto this story surfaced. I am not saying that it’s not the case I just hadn’t heard anything prior and was wondering where it was coming from.

I think the big thing so far is that the initial claim from someone in the Ohtani camp was that he "covered" the interpreters debt. Then that was retracted and it was changed to "the interpreter stole all that money". That's a very suspicious adjustment to the facts.

It’s happened in super quick real time over the last 2-3 days but, if you’ve followed the story, the shared story that Ohtani, the interpreter, and the PR/legal teams have put forth keeps changing to remove Ohtani further and further from the situation, to the point that he now had no knowledge of things that his team already admitted to him having knowledge of and doing.

Isn’t Ohtani worth half a billion now? Can you imagine how much he’d have to bet at this point to make his palms sweat? If he is gambling I would love to see those wins/losses. I bet they are bonkers.

Has Ohtani been hanging with Bruno Mars?

The only reason this had to have come about is that he was betting on things that aren’t approved by the MLB a la Pete Rose. The interpreter did nothing wrong at first (had gambling debts, Ohtani bailed him out), which now has turned into a legal, felonious thing that will be investigated as grand theft. We’ll see but the whole thing stinks.

I probably won’t watch too much White Sox this year since they will likely be garbage and lost the best Play-By-Play guy in Jason Bennetti but I still gotta watch some ball.
