Interesting. My top 12 are all 2022 albums. I thought I'd have had a random non-2022 album in there somewhere. I fully expect Alvvays to be top by year end.

Just listening to that Damien Jurado Album and enjoying it.

Man.. Wild Pink... I think they are becoming too sleepy and are on the verge of boring on this new album. Their first two records were incredible. Excellent flow, songwriting, punchy and climactic guitars, great contrast between John's quiet voice and the boisterous music. Third album was more of the same but with a little less rawness. This one is just... like The War on Drugs Lite. Lots of people seem to like it but I think they've lost me.

It starts really slow but picks up towards the end for me. Its definitely a grower but I have come to really love it. Definitely in my top ten for the year so far.

The second half is definitely better than the first. But like, they did that second half energy for the whole album on their first two records. Idk it’s just a sleepy album and I was expecting more from it for all the praise.

I really don’t know how I feel about the new record some moments it am awestruck by the beauty but at others there is a bit of an over sentimentality that makes me wanna roll my eyes. It kinda toes the line. It probably depends on my mood. Kinda how I feel about the last Gang Of Youths record.

That is a great comparison! Both bands did some more aggressive/raw sounding earlier albums with their newest work being more “heart on your sleeve” and personal.

So here's finally my Q3 Best of. Quite late, I know, it was due to being on vacation and other issues. It includes the last week of June, and the last release day of September will be included in Q4 as usual (including the amazing Björk album). I've listened to several hundred albums this quarter and these are my subjective favorites. Order may change as the year goes on. Thanks to all of you for creating such a wonderful place to discover new music ❤️

Q3 Update

Total 2022 releases (albums/EPs/mixtapes) listened to as of September 30th: 191 320 424

Been slower in getting around to newer releases than even last quarter, but I've struck a string of luck with the majority of what I've tried. However, the memorable gems to me were fewer, and I ultimately slashed a column from Q2's 4x5 into a 4x4.

Women reign supreme, much like last quarter. Genre distribution remains roughly the same, with a few more excellent art pop and ambient-adjacent entries making their presence felt. Recent hip hop drops were very needed with my current top50 list deficient in that genre.

Like before, I'm leaving the last Friday drops of the quarter to be eligible for the next quarter chart; just listened to Björk's newest to start Q4 and that one already has a reservation. No entries are ranked here; sorted in alphabetical order by band name/artist last name.

Q1 Update
Q2 Update

As usual a solid amount of overlap. I've been dogshit sick all week and have had that Beth Orton on a loop at times. The 2nd half of it is 10/10 incredible.

I've also fallen in love with Jockstrap's album (while lit up on cold medication 😂)which I don't think I've seen anyone here mention.

Gonna check out that Caterina album. Been a weak year for electronic (from what I've found) and that sounds up my alley based off the tags.

October 2022 was a very solid month and each release day Friday had something to offer. Looking at my standouts here, what can I say: the ladies absolutely dominated with new releases! Several albums from October will surely make it on to my AOTY list (some placing quite high up, I might add).

What were your favourite albums from October? What did I miss? Have you checked any of these out, and what did you think?

A.A. Williams - As The Moon Rests (Alternative)
Andrina Bollinger - Secret Seed (Art Pop)
Anna Arrobas - Made To Touch (Dream Pop, Folk, Electronic, Sludge, Experimental)
Aoife Nessa Frances - Protector (Alternative, Folk, Psychedelic)

BATTS - The Nightline (Alternative, Indie Rock, Space Rock)
Exhumed - To The Dead (Deathgrind, Goregrind)
Indigo Sparke - Hysteria (Indie/Pop/Country Folk)
Louis Cole - Quality Over Opinion (Pop, Funk, Electronic)

Psychonaut - Violate Consensus Reality (Post-Metal)
Skullcrusher - Quiet The Room (Ethereal/Alternative Indie Folk)
Taylor Swift - Midnights (3AM) (Pop, Folk, Alternative)
The Otolith - Folium Limina (Symphonic Doom, Avant Garde Metal)

At this point I'm at a total loss as to what my list will even look like, although my number one is probably the same it has been for...most of the year. But albums like Big Thief and Beach House I haven't returned to nearly as much as I imagined I would. So I'm revisiting them now. There are also plenty of things I missed, but I tried to listen to even more new music this year than last year. I know it's still November but it almost feels like things are wrapping up.
