Ch Ch Ch Changes! - David Bowie Talk

Operation Get-the-beast-inside-before-Mrs-sees-it was a success. Almost broke my neck trying to maneuver it around dog and cats. Hardcover book to show scale of the box.

A few quick observations. Outside has a wide sleeve instead of the tri-fold of the Friday Vinyl reissue from a couple of years ago. hours has hi-res artwork unlike the Friday Vinyl reissue, but is gatefold instead of tri-fold. Funny that hours is the only album in the set with a standard gatefold, but is only a single album.

Very excited to listen to Toy on vinyl. I have had a lossy bootleg for years but it will be great to hear in in full.

Glad Re:Call collects almost all the soundtrack versions from the 90s as many were fairly different version, not just edited tracks.

This is amazing. Thanks for sharing some details.

So one disappointing exclusion from Toy is Uncle Floyd. It was recorded late during the Toy sessions. It was later revamped and re-recorded as Slip Away on Heathen. It is one of the better later period Bowie songs in my opinion. But I can see why it was left of this new version of Toy since it does not fit the 60s feel of the other songs.

Uncle Floyd (Toy)

Slip Away (Heathens)

Do you have the two Friday versions mentioned? I’d be curious if you do a shoot-out between them.

Keeping my eye on this. Warner just purchased David Bowie's catalog for $250m.

Warner Chappell has been on an acquisition spree as of late, securing the publishing rights to the catalogues of Quincy Jones, Cardi B, George Michael, and others. But this one is a different kind of big and it likely indicates that unconventional experiences like Bowie 75 and other unearthed recordings (like on the Toy box set) will be on the horizon.

For now, all I care about is how/whether this will affect reissues of his 90s catalogue...

Saw that this morning. While in many ways the Bowie estate has been infuriating (looking at you pre-Space Oddity 7in box sets and 6 Brilliant Adventures live albums) they have maintained a high standard with regards to the pressings of the back catalogue. I don't think there is a lot in the vaults but would love to have some of those songs see the light of day.

The Variety article says that it also includes the 2 Tin Machine albums as well.

I just hope this means that Tony will finally stop remixing/remastering the old albums.

But what will poor Tony do if he isn’t remastering his bestest buddy in the whole world’s albums as they both originally intended…

Bet within a couple of weeks they will announce the stand alone reissues from the last Box set. My guess is they are just waiting for Toy:Box and the 75th birthdate to get out of the way after the deal signing.

I think with the last 4 boxes it was about 6 months after so I’d be guessing late spring/early summer?

75th anniversary of David Bowie landing on earth today :alien:

Bit of self promotion, but I've had him on my mind a lot recently developing this feature inspired by his prediction of the future of the internet in 1999:

Would be very curious to hear some feedback from his fans.
