December 2020 Challenge Thread: Let's Go Out With A Bang (The return of the raffle!)

Day 2: Finally!

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings - Give the People What They Want

View attachment 78520

I’ve been meaning to dive deeper into SJ&DK’s catalogue pre-Holiday Soul Party yet I just haven’t for whatever reason. Thankfully, my secret Santa helped me rectify 1 of those 5 wrongs this year and I’ll be sure to move onto the other 4 in 2021! Thank you again, Santa!
This is a great one, but 100 Days, 100 Nights is my favorite!

The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs

Not a recent purchase but this had been released on vinyl for the first time on RSD in 2010 (I think maybe 2000 copies) and sold out quickly. I looked everywhere for this and even started considering forking over $250 on Discogs. Then one day in St Louis, I was at a local record shop and there it was on a shelf for normal retail price and I snatched it. I think it was rereleased a couple years ago, but back when I bought this, it felt like I had won the lottery. Such a fun album.

day two - finally

I don't even remember how I discovered SKM. Maybe someone on a Modest Mouse forum during my extreme MM phase recommended them to me. I just know that I have spent the last 7 years trying to find this album. It finally got repressed (and I had no idea). I walked into Omega Records a month ago and immediately snatched it up. They only had one copy, and it had to be mine.

Took a long time to find a decent original copy of this one at a decent price. Of course, shortly after acquiring it, hell froze over and it was repressed after being unavailable for 21 years. C'est la vie...

One of my favorite records of the 90s.

The Verve - A Northern Soul

Day 3: Ozzy's 72nd Birthday
Damn he's getting old haha, play something from The Prince of Darkness or the oldest album in your collection

I'm sure Ozzy's disco collaboration with Was(Not Was) is low hanging fruit and I'm gonna snag it before everyone else can beat me to it. You also got Kim Basinger in there if Ozzy isn't hardcore enough for you.

Was (Not Was) - Born To Laugh At Tornadoes

I got your post notification the minute I sent mine and I was like "I swear if D also just posted paranoid..."

Everyone else is gonna struggle today 😂

I did everything I could possibly do to look out for you lightweights...

Since the low hanging fruit is now gone, everyone else don't forget about the second part of the post haha I do appreciate the dedication for jumping on those first though!

Frank Sinatra - A Swingin' Affair

Pressed in 1957, this one's been around for a while but is in great shape and still sounds fantastic!

Hobosexual - Monolith

It's only been a year or two since I made a Discogs account, but this album was put in my wantlist the day I joined. I had seen them on KEXP and really liked the sound, but I didn't want to bite on the vinyl unless I knew it would be in my constant rotation. Well, the first track on the album became my go-to on warm Summer nights and I streamed the album endlessly. Went back for the vinyl and of course it was gone with no repress ever.

So, I put it on my Discogs Wantlist and one random day, about 4 months ago, a copy went up for sale for $25. Jumped on that shit so fast.
It's the physical and aural manifestation of what you thought 80's rock was when you were 7 years old.

You'll be my 1987 Sharon Stone

Time to play the technicality game.

Ozzy Osborne was the lead singer of Black Sabbath
Black Sabbath is responsible for War Pigs
Which is the opening sample used on...

Girl Talk - All Day

So let’s blast some morning Sabbath why don’t we.image.jpg
