I purchased this record directly from the artist. It came with a personalized thank you note from Juliana, which made me feel great about buying the records this way and knowing that the proceeds went to her as much as possible.

Play something that prominently features a unique or uncommon instrument:
New musical instruments were specially developed for the album, and specially for the shows at the Manchester International Festival that took place in mid-2011 to introduce the album. The Tesla coil was used as a musical instrument on the song "Thunderbolt". A "gameleste", a mixture between a gamelan and a celesta which was programmed in order to be played remotely by a tablet computer, was also used in "Crystalline" and "Virus". A group of pendulums were put together, creating patterns with their moves, transmitting the movements of the Earth to the sound of a harp, making the song "Solstice".

I'm going to quote the lead singer band's description here:
"Lead singer Fred 04, described the idea for the band as "a fusion, a bridge between Johnny Rotten [of the punk band. the Sex Pistols] and Jorge Ben [a pioneering Brazilian pop musician who fuses funk. soul. and samba] and Moreira da Silva [a samba musician from the 1930s and '40s]"
The album features various unique instruments as cuíca (percussion) and even an electrified cavaquinho (string instrument that's related to the ukelele).
It's a shame the vinyl pressing loped off 3 tracks from the original release on CD (from 13 tracks to 10).

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Flying Microtonal Banana
Almost all the instruments are unique since they are microtonal, but Stu also plays the zurna on several tracks. Might need to play the whole microtonal trilogy this morning!
