The real outlier in their catalog, this album is a lot more concerned with personal relationships, including lust, than their other works. Multiple love songs, breathy vocals, and leather pants, which was the apex mountain of sexiness for 1991. A view of what the future felt like at the end of the cold war and unfortunately one we didn't get to live.
So I love this album a lot. My AOTY for 2021. But more importantly for this category, there's a sense of romanticism throughout. Love, yearning, and the flutters of the heart through 10 kickass heartland rock tunes.
10-year old me definitely felt dirty and a bit embarrassed when the shorter version of this played on my Batman cassette in Dad's car -- often I would fast forward through it, even. 40-year old me was like, "Oh, there's an even longer version available? Heck yes!"
