December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Day 4 – Moonage Daydream
I'll be a rock 'n' rollin' bitch for you.
Play some glam rock or anything glamorous.

HMLTD - West of Eden

I don't know how to classify glam rock by sound. I typed "glam" into the Discogs search bar in my collection and this record was the only result. This album could be defined as many genres outside of glam including: art pop, gothic pop, indie punk, and synthpop. Would you say the lead single "Loaded" holds up as a glam descriptor?

Supergrass - The Strange Ones 1994-2008
Song: “Seen The Light”

I always thought of Supergrass as being a glam rock band at times, moreso on their later albums, but a quick internet search doesn’t mention this often when describing them. Maybe it’s because of the minimal glitter involved. This song sounds like a T. Rex track, thus it’s pretty “glammy” to me

Day 3 – Spirit In The Sky
Oh set me up with the spirit in the sky (spirit in the sky).
Play some gospel music or an album with a religious or spiritual theme.

Brian Eno + David Byrne - My Life in the Bush of Ghosts

Plenty of samples on this album come from spiritual and religious sources, but I'm going to go with the exorcism-themed "The Jezebel Spirit" for my next track.

Day 2: Go All the Way

Various Artists - Lodge 49 (Original Series Soundtrack)

You'll have to forgive a streamed entry today, as this superb soundtrack to the even better show has not had a physical release. I also don't totally know what power pop is apart from a few examples played earlier, but I think this '60s garage rock tune kinda fits the vibe.

(Also, watch this show!)

Day 4: Glamorous

Joanna Newsom - Have One on Me

I have this 3xCD in a box at my parents' house, but borrowed a copy from the library recently till I can go dig it up. Not glam rock, but that's certainly a glamorous room on the cover.

And the closer, "Does Not Suffice," begins:

"I will pack up my pretty dresses.
I will box up my high-heeled shoes.
A sparkling ring, for every finger,
I'll put away, and hide from view.

Coats of bouclé, jacquard and cashmere;
cartouche and tweed, all silver shot —
and everything that could remind you
of how easy I was not."
