December 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge: The Intergalactic Mixtape Dance-Off!

Listening to this will get me primed for watching this show! :D

as someone whose SO is fully entrenched in the Bravo-verse, Bon Voyage on your journey!

Is Herb Alpert's Rise Yacht Rock? I tend to put that track on those types of playlists because it's so awesome. Plus I never tire of hearing the sample at 3:20.

Yeck yeah, fat baselines, some xylophone, an echoing wah wah guitar, hand claps, and that pillowy Latin trumpet. The whole thing sounds like it was recorded in the middle of Coke party.

It’s been added to my playlist.

Day 6 – I’m Not In Love
I’m not in love, so don’t forget it. It’s just a silly phase I’m going through.
Play an album/artist/genre you were really into for a while. Or from a rabbit hole you dove into for a while.

While I was in college from 80-84, Genesis was all the rage. This was also the launch of MTV and you absolutely could not escape them...

Hyperpop. This is a classic case of me following the zoomer hype train in hopes of blending in. In time, I was able to tolerate and even enjoy some of the more prolific entries in the genre. However, I've been indifferent to hyperpop this year. My overall knowledge of the current hyperpop sphere is very limited, and I will likely do away my physical copies of any related titles outside of a few Charli XCX releases (Vroom Vroom EP and both Number 1 Angel and Pop 2, the two mixtapes from '17).

I used to love indie and now I find myself listening to it less and less.
Same same saammmeeee. I could use less indie rock/pop/folk/whatever in my life. A few exceptions.

I dove into that same rabbit hole during the 80s!

Day 4-Moonage Daydream

I fell off due to a migraine that decided to persist for a couple days.

But y’all knew I was going to play Bowie for this one right?
This is the 1990 press of The Man Who Sold the World with the extra disc of bonus material. This was a crate digging bargain as I found this at a Salvation Army store for $1 in the late 90’s.

While Width of a Circle is probably the best known in this album, I think Black Country Rock would fit into this mixtape really well.

Day 1 - Hooked On A Feeling
Play a record with a song that you feel is a great mixtape/playlist opening track.

Playing catch-up...
It was not a hit in North American, but "Celebrate" by An Emotional Fish charted in the UK, and is a super-fun bop.

note: this was the very first album I ever bought on CD in 1990, however the CD is long gone :(

Not so much a rabbit hole as a musician who has his fingers on so many cds in my collection. Bill Laswell, through production, remixing or as a musician, I have 20 cds (plus another 5 LPs) he is directly involved with

Bill Laswell - Panthalassa: the music of Miles Davis (the cd that got me into Miles Davis in a big way)
