Definitive Audiophile pressings

Oh I completely agree on the price. I swapped for Idris. The price is silly. I also swapped last month for this album:

And it's really fun. Pressed at Pallas, dead quiet, obviously the songs vary in quality depending on the master so it's not exactly audiophile but it's a good one if you like that style of music.
That's one of the Luaka Bop releases right? They have some awesome comps. I love the Tim Maia one (which I think is same series as the one you posted) and then the William Onyeabor - Who Is William Onyeabor? comp. The Brazil Classics box set is also real nice and I loved the gospel comp they did a little while ago. I'm a huge fan of the label.

I got Sorcerer and Idris, and I'm very excited to get back to London to listen to them. I hope they get them back in the swaps, because I need that Purdie

I definitely succumbed to FOMO on these, I should have waited, they will most likely come out from Craft on black vinyl

edit - it's just too easy to buy vinyl online in lockdown

The early one of these on Os Mutantes is also really great

Definitely. there are so many records you could pick up in America that look cheap on Discogs, but when you look at the cheapest available copy in Europe it jumps. AP & Mofi without a doubt, you might find the same with older blue note titles & the like
This is the bane of my life. There are so many records that can be bought for next to nothing in the US but cost a fortune when they pop up here in the UK.

Yup it is, World Psychedelic Classics Volume 3. I don't have any others although I do have a couple of African Scream Contest albums from Analog Africa which are also fantastic.

KoB update:

Found a UK dealer that had it for £64 and just went for it. Once the UHQR is out I'll decide whether I want to upgrade further.

I have the 2 LP MOV and have been trying to get the danged Mofi box for a while but I finally just gave up and grabbed the RKS @ Sterling RTI RSD Mono pressing today. Depending on how it is I might just stick with that one for the time being...

They seem to repress that MoFi box at least once a year. There are 20,000+ copies so somebody has to have them! It's always insane to me how much people flip MoFi albums that are still in print for price-wise.

Yeah as Mather says real good, bit more of a Spiritual Jazz vibe with some vocals from Andy Bey on a track or two . Sorry that might have read they are all good BUT the Bartz and Lawence, I just meant the others are more groove like Idris, Purdy etc.
Yea--That's why I was confused at first but eventually realized what ya meant! I might pick up the Bartz though--I only recently realized that they did it in that series and it was AAA.

So when I bough the Dylan Supervillains Vinyl from Music Direct last year, I ordered another album that had a defect that made it unlistenable They were really good and basically offered to send out another copy with my next purchase. I had Blonde on Blonde on back order but since added Miles on the Corner & Ellington Jazz party.

I got bored of waiting for the Blonde on Blonde repress, so asked them to send out what they had, all arrived yesterday. listening today & get to Jazz party & there is warp. I'm sure @Mather has had worse. It plays ok but I can see the needle bouncing up & down.

My question to you all is, how big a warp does it need to be to complain? Also, How bad does it look, if I've only received 2 shipments & complained about both of them?

I'm completely on the fence as what to do.

I haven't heard the MoFi, but have the RKS mono pressing & it's good. It's amazing it sells so cheaply.

I think a lot of that is abroad, availability can be spotty at best and AP and MD use insanely expensive shipping options and declare every last penny (as I suppose they should) so you get hit for duty and because it’s dick head courier company their €20 “admin” fee that post office doesn't really charge.

The alternative over here is a guy who charges somewhere in the middle but is an “interesting” character, see my fresh grabs thread posts tonight...

Yea. Makes sense, but I even see people in the US trying to buy stuff that isn't OOP for crazy amounts. Even on places like the Hoffman classifieds where I think people would have a better idea of what is OOP and what will have a repress. I'm still a bit surprised MoFi and AP don't have european distribution centers. I bet they would have no trouble making their money back to make that worthwhile.

Oh dear! I wish they would properly distribute to Europe beyond just a couple of specialists, there’s gotta be plenty of sales for them there!

I mean, if it affects play I'd say something. Don't worry about whether you said something before. It's on them not you.

You're right.

Sometimes I'm not sure if I'm being a bit picky, the needle tracks but you can still see it going up and down and it's on the last track. I sympathise with you, I think I would lose it if I got as many warped through the door as you have had.

I'd add to @Mather's response that at least the warp can be documented. If you were unhappy with how it sounded, that might be a bit more of a gray area (or feel like one). So I agree, if it affects play, you should let them know.

I used to, but I just expect it now. My clamp takes care of most of them so they play flat, which is really all I care about. Quite frankly the thing that's annoying me more these days is that even on the lowest setting I've had several warped new presses melt in my Furutech flattener. And there's no way that should be happening on 180 gram new vinyl. So some plants must be doing something with their formulas that's causing the issue since it's never been a problem in the past. So now I'm getting gun shy to flatten anything valuable and that's exactly why I bought this in the first place.
