Definitive Audiophile pressings

So when I bough the Dylan Supervillains Vinyl from Music Direct last year, I ordered another album that had a defect that made it unlistenable They were really good and basically offered to send out another copy with my next purchase. I had Blonde on Blonde on back order but since added Miles on the Corner & Ellington Jazz party.

I got bored of waiting for the Blonde on Blonde repress, so asked them to send out what they had, all arrived yesterday. listening today & get to Jazz party & there is warp. I'm sure @Mather has had worse. It plays ok but I can see the needle bouncing up & down.

My question to you all is, how big a warp does it need to be to complain? Also, How bad does it look, if I've only received 2 shipments & complained about both of them?

I'm completely on the fence as what to do.
I'm probably more laid back than I should be when it comes to warps. If it doesn't affect play, then I typically don't bother returning it unless it's a very expensive album. Record weights don't really work on my TT. The one I had seems to push the platter down too much and occasionally causes the platter to scrape against the surface of the deck. I also typically don't ask for a replacement for seam splits unless it's really bad or if the album is really expensive.

I have the 2 LP MOV and have been trying to get the danged Mofi box for a while but I finally just gave up and grabbed the RKS @ Sterling RTI RSD Mono pressing today. Depending on how it is I might just stick with that one for the time being...
I really like the MOV pressing for Kind Of Blue! It sounds really good and has very little to no surface noise! It’s definitely a keeper and isn’t expensive at all to find! 💎

Honestly don’t know if I prefer my MoFi 2LP 45RPM and MOV single LP pressing! That’s how good the MOV pressing is in my opinion!

Mines very clean but I didn't find it very dynamic, similar to a lot of MOV pressings. It sounded fine, but it doesn't... sing... So I'm going to give the mono a shot.

Out of interest, anyone have a recommendation for record clamp / weight for a technics 1210? I read mixed things about compatibility with them & am not sure if she should get one or not.

I've tried a Michell clamp on my 1210. The spindle isn't very long on the 1210, so the clamp only grabs a bit of it, but it's enough. But something to think about if you have a thick mat on there.

I don't really ever use it though, since I work out my warps/dishes with the VF or return them if they're really bad.

tbh, I’ve been a bit like that myself but wondering if I should actually be complaining.

I probably would complain if I was paying a ton for international shipping or paying some of the prices y'all have to pay overseas. You definitely have the right to complain about it especially if it affects play or looks like your tonearm is on a roller coaster.

Also, I just started a Technics thread on the hardware page... you may want to try this question in there too.

Speaking of MOV, not audiophile obviously, but does anyone have their pressing of The Meters? The album is incredible, but OG’s are ridiculously expensive. The MOV seems like the only reasonable option, buuuuuuuuuut I have my doubts about the sound quality.

Mmmm yep, I know what you mean. I found it a little dynamic and I think the clarity on the pressing is great. Soundstage is quite nice too. But I definitely do know what you mean as it doesn’t ‘sing’. Like it doesn’t have that ‘air’ and spaciousness to it and even though the soundstage is decent, it doesn’t sound as open as it could. The MoFi sounds much more open and dynamic, but I feel like it’s a little bit more muddy in sound. They’re both very different pressings and I have a feeling the UHQR pressing will be even better than both and will be the absolute keeper for me, once I compare it to the other pressings!

Kudos to Acoustic Sounds for leaving less than complimentary reviews posted for the Jethro Tull Aqualung UHQR. I’ve been a huge fan of the Steven Wilson Tull reissues- I’ve bought them all and the SW Aqualung easily beats my DCC. Their honesty saved me $125.

Edit: I still want it though. 🙄
I’m really curious to get my hands on a UHQR. I’ll buy the Miles Davis and compare it to the MoFi.

I would too, but Mono only please. I have the AP 45rpm of Otis Blue in stereo and his vocals are panned so damn hard into the left channel, I rarely reach for it. That's been the case with all his stereo stuff in my experience.
Agreed. I was recently looking for the best CD versions/digital versions to download and mono is always the way to go with Otis. I have an OG pressing and that's the version I'm most used to listening to and it's in mono so didn't realize they hard panned his voice until I heard a stereo version. That's a shame the AP is stereo! I had that on my want list but just took it off now.
