Definitive Audiophile pressings

Not all of the EMI100s are created equally. Some are DMM, like the Ziggy I see on Discogs and don't claim to be cut from the original tapes, like the Hunky Dory is. Not sure if there are multiple EMI100 Ziggys or not.
Yep--good point. Worth doing research on specific titles. I have seen high praise for Imagine and Hunky Dory. Slowly looking through the other titles to see if any jump out at me of titles I'd like.

Yeah I was also looking for that Hunky Dory alo, but even 3 or 4 years ago it was too rich for my blood.

Back to Impex releases @Andy & @Selaws do you own a copy of Legrand Jazz? The line up is, well, interesting.
I have a first pressing. Funny story with it. Columbia owed Michel Legrand a load of money from unpaid sessions and in an attempt to defuse the situation, the label offered to cover the costs of an album for him, allowing him to choose the repertoire and any musicians he wanted. So he must have been like "fuck it" and just listed every jazz musician hes ever wanted to play with :ROFLMAO:

Someone mentioned the Bowie Legacy Comp to me on here a while back. I think... Any prevailing thoughts regarding master quality and UK vs US pressing?

I saw that somewhere as well. The line is phenomenal.

Also have an original (mono promo), but wasn’t aware of that backstory 😂

(Sunlight really emphasizes that long mark, which is more a scuff than a scratch. Some occasional light background noise, but otherwise sounds pretty good.)

Much smaller Fremer rabbit hole, but I have the AP press of the Dick Schory record he discusses in this article: Three Percussion Records You Should Own

Of the original press, Fremer says, "You'll be left wondering where we've gone in the art and science of recording over the past fifty nine years . . . I'm not exaggerating about the sound quality: It's amazing nor am I overstating the "pure novelty" aspect of the arrangements. This is not "serious" music but it is serious fun."

The AP pressing is consistent with this, from both audiophile and fun/kitsch perspectives. The original recording/production was painstakingly meant to have pristine sound quality ("Stop Coddling Your Hi-Fi Set!" headlines the back jacket liner notes), and it shows on the AP press.

I have the 2x LP @ 45rpm version, and it's excellent (and underrated musically). I splurged on the 45 bc I wanted the background info in the booklet that comes w/ that version but not the 33rpm. The 45 is also gatefold if you care about that.

Other Impex well worth owning, especially from the audiophile perspective, is "Blow Up" by Isao Suzuki trio/quartet. This is part of the "Three Blind Mice" reissues mentioned here a day or two ago.

can someone point me to the best abbey road pressing thats not $$$$ ?

sorry if this question is dumb
Most 70s UK pressings purportedly sound great and last I checked (and bought) were quite affordable. I ended up with this one after trolling eBay for a while but I don't know if you can know exactly what press it is without asking for deadwax info. There are people discussing exactly which deadwax stamp sounds best on hoffman if you want to dig through that info but iirc all should be pretty great. There are a lot of slightly different ones in that time frame.

I have the US because I have every Bowie release but cannot remember much about it. Think I bought it bought it because I am a completist and because Life On Mars is a different version.

Ya it is, it's the 2016 mix. I don't like getting comps but Bowie's discography is daunting when it comes to my limited space...
