Definitive Audiophile pressings

The sandpaper ones were actually really cheap because they literally went into a DIY store in Stockport and bought all their sandpaper, wallpaper paste and a can of black spray paint for the stencil. Joy Division made them to pay off some sudio time costs. Well Ian Curtis made them while the other three watched hardcore porn videos in the background...

The Die Cut Blue Monday cover on the other hand? Cost 50p more per copy than it retailed for. And it was the highest selling 12ā€ single of all time...
Story was that Factory would supply beer while people folded early factory sleeves together. One of them (Vini Reilly) was terrible at it to begin with and would get progressively drunker and worse as the night progressed so that have his records were glued to the sleeves and they had to chuck a bunch of them.

I used to have outer sleeves for my vinyl but then it became too inconvenient for me and annoying so I threw them all out. Much prefer not having outer sleeves! All my records are re-sleeved though and contain high quality inner sleeves! āœ…šŸ˜‡

I love how Factory used to try to say FU! to everyone originally. Sandpaper sleeves, sleeves that cost more than they sold them for. I think Tony Wilson always regretted not coming up with the idea of burning a million pounds before KLF did.
Ha great minds, im catching up and was going to share a photo of the sandpaper sleeve before getting to your post!

Well look who doesnā€™t want music direct to have the market cornered on shadiness.

I grabbed this for $50 in December and I think even that was a mark up over the original price since itā€™s just a single lp 33rpm.

Oh yah thats not new. I had the Dylan one step in my wishlist then suddenly one day it was $300. That was over the summer.

I hated outer sleeves too. Main issue for me was that I couldn't see the spine very well and I always had to pull records in and out of the shelf to find them.

But I found some excellent crystal clear CPP sleeves and have most of my stuff sleeved again. Maybe look into crystal clear sleeves? The records actually look pretty good in them too.
Ok, thanks for that recommendation! Iā€™ll look into the Crystal Clear CPP sleeves!

The main problem for me with outer sleeves was that the standard size was too sight for a lot of single LP jackets, and the bigger sized outer sleeve was too big!

I think Iā€™m going to go with my instinct and not use outer sleeves, but will make sure my records have breathing room on the kallax! So that way, itā€™s less likely there will be wear on them!

My thinking is this. Think about how much you've invested in vinyl over the years, don't you want to protect your investment as best you can? When I look at my Discogs collection value, I know that due to the condition of all my babies, I'm at least rocking at the median value. You without outer sleeves and those scraped up little jackets, you're slipping towards that low end baby.

Not very sexy Nathan. Do what Justin Timberlake would do, buy some outersleeves, bring sexy back.
I donā€™t see vinyl as an investment though. I donā€™t really have an investment mentality. Only in the short term; like doing overtime so then I can eat out at a nice restaurant 3 nights in a row! šŸ˜‹

I donā€™t want to see my records as an investment though, because thatā€™s just an added thing to worry about if you know what I mean!

Wait? Did @jamieanderson1968 Dewey decimal his records to cross reference to Discogs? Old school checkout cards with each record?

...come to think of it, it does sound pretty awesome.
I actually did a project for a cataloguing class on how to expand the Dewey system to allow for a deeper categorization of my 7in punk rock collection. There are some limitations to the Dewey classification system, so I used that as a jumping off ...

Hey!! Where are you going?
