Definitive Audiophile pressings

Actually, the description says, "Remastered from the 1st generation Nippon Columbia master tape."

Does that mean it could have been remastered to digital and then cut for vinyl? In other words, does that mean it's possible that it's AAA and it's possible it's not AAA??

I don't care that much one way or the other, but I think this technical distinction has been raised before here, and I'm just curious whether I understand it.

remastered from tape doesn't necessarily mean it is AAA. they could have transferred original tapes to high res digital, remastered and then cut. I think "cut from the original tapes" is more of an indicator of it being AAA than "remastered from".

Does anyone know any pressing details about this one? I read somewhere it was from the master tapes & I'm sure I read it was pressed somewhere good, but for the life of me can't find any information on it now that its been released. I don't think the details on cogs is rights it lists a CD manufacturer as the pressing plant.

a little more detail here:

a little more detail here:

From the master tapes & 4/5 Sound from TAS, makes me think it's worth a punt. It's also quite cheap here.

I have a VG+ 1981 US pressing of Heaven Up Here by Echo and the Bunnymen. It sounds good to me.
But I wonder, can anyone opine on the quality of the out-of-print MoFi silver label reissue? Is it an upgrade over an OG US pressing? Enough to pay $70+?

I don't have a copy of it, but have heard the MoFi version a couple of times and it sounded really nice. That said the Sire and Korova OGs are usually good value and sound good as well. I guess that is not really helpful.

I don't own it, but it's a silver label so it's likely not from an original master. Some of those still sound really good though (I like the Stevie Wonders for example). From what I see on a quick Hoffman search people seem to like this one. One person said it has wider soundstage and is more detailed than a US Sire but people also seem to just overall like the US Sire pressings. It all kinda boils down to what you want to spend on it. I wouldn't be shocked if some of those silver labels come back in stock at some point too.

It kinda boils down to how much you'd listen to it. There's always an itch to try to get a better sounding one but I'm not familiar enough with this album to know how much of an improvement you'd get!

For you Kevin Gray stans, this reissue was mastered/cut by him and pressed at RTI. Showing March 26 shipping, but mine arrived so either they're waiting on new inventory from the first press of the reissue or they did a second press.

Also supposed to be cut from original 1973 tapes. Just arrived, and I haven't listened yet:
Toshiyuki Miyama & The New Herd - Tsuchi No Ne (Sound of the Earth) | Light In The Attic Records
This looks like it could be right up @Skalap, @Speedracer and @kafunis street (im assuming all you guys live together in a Japanese house right?)

I’ve got this in-hand but haven’t opened it yet. I can check for you later tonight if you want to hold off for confirmation.

That was a pretty lazy Discogs listing dupe off the CD release.

Yeah, that's what I thought. If you have it in hand, no rush but I'd love to hear your thoughts on the album.

Ok, thanks for talking me down. Sounds like a marginal improvement, so I'll enjoy what I have.

Damnit! The S&G would come out 3 days after I bought the Waits. I’d have bundled them! Hopefully it appears over here at a fair price. Loving the idea of goth mofi 😂

Why repress this? It is the only MoFi that you can literally find in every record stores online shop, usually marked down because no one wants it.
My guess is that maybe they are adding some back into their stock instead of repressing it. Seems weird to me too. That one is still available everywhere.

Which Waits pressings did ya get again? A local near me had a bunch of Waits reissues but I seem to recall there were some bad reissues and some good ones...I believe the ones I saw said remastered by Waits/Brennan?

Oh no avoid them like the plague. Regardless of pressing quality the new remasters are pretty much remixes and they stink. Hi Res streaming meant I never touched them and relied on the old master CDs until I was ready to move for vinyl.

I got the rhinos from 2010 that were available and Japanese OGs for the asylum stuff and it’s all brilliant!

This one was the mofi of one from the heart, ordered it from music direct on Friday via An Post’s AddressPal redirect service thingy. If the S & G had been announced then I’d have got both in the package!

That's what I figured so I didn't buy em. For some reason in my mind those were the ones NOT to get. Glad my memory isn't as shot as I sometimes think it is!
