Definitive Audiophile pressings

This could be a good deal though
Damn good deal considering it's long been sold out on their website.

On a side note I have to say that im loving the love I am seeing lately for Sam Records. They seem to be really down to earth and considering its essentially a one-man team they really do release fantastic albums.

Yea! One of my favorite reissue labels out there.

I’ll 2nd the Sam Rec version. All of my Sam’s including this one r good.

Side bar, does anyone else scratch their heads with AS selling their own pressings at inflated prices on Cogs? Not always, but there have been a few.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that whoever is pricing these on discogs might not have a ton of experience pricing stuff. Either that or they have a Wheel of Fortune-esque wheel to price records hah. It would explain why the prices are all over the place. Most stuff is lowest current price or close to it. Some are drastically lower than the lowest price. I got the Bill Evans Waltz for Debby AP for $45 from them the other day. The current cheapest currently available was $100 and median is $120. It's not one that pops up very often and when it does it is usually $100+.

Then they have stuff like the Ballads AS reissue for $45 or another copy for $30 with bent corner. I'm pretty baffled by pricing but there have definitely been some good deals. I made some offers at 10% cheaper and they have declined them so they should just turn offers off at this point hah.

Agreed, and yes there have definitely been some great opportunities on some titles no doubt, its just odd to me when they're listing their own titles, but you're probably right, some afterschool intern is probably sifting through "For Sale on Cogs" boxes, lol. And agree again on the OBO, they're not accepting ANY offer, so why bother.

They accepted my offer of $22.50 for a new $25 Rush Moving Pics with a corner ding.

I'll stick to my VMP. I think.
I'm with you. It's not only that the VMP press sounds more than solid for the amount of plays I give it, but I also consider the shelf space I'd be sacrificing to upgrade. I may be in the minority but these fancy deluxe boxes some audiophile pressings come in are a pox from the depths of hell. I'd rather have the shelf space! (And a $10 reduction in price!)

The Craft one step boxes are surprisingly thin. But I hear ya...shelf space is hard to come by!

Got my AP 33 of Time Out by Brubeck. This sounds so good. I've got to get the AP 33 of Pet Sounds in Mono next.

The AP Pet Sounds is good, the best I’ve heard it sound, but it’s not revelatory in the way that some of these audiophile ones can be. I think eventually that you’re always running up against the quality of the source recordings with this one.

Yeah, I agree. While the music is jaw-droppingly gorgeous the recording is a bit muddy in a wall of sound-ish kinda way.

Yeah apparently Wilson overdubbed and overdubbed and overdubbed the mono tapes to get them to sound how he wanted and the tapes that were used to make the stereo reissue were actually much fresher since they weren’t mucked around with so much, which is why many prefer the stereo even though there is a digital step. Not to mention the stereo field and all of its glory, in general. All hearsay on my part.....but this is what I gather for the AP versions of Pet Sounds.

Yeah I'd say I prefer the Stereo version. It feels like sacrilege considering Brian Wilson meant for it to be in Mono, but your breakdown here explains what I have heard - the Stereo sounds a lot cleaner. Either way you can't go wrong, in my opinion its the best album ever recorded.

Best sounding version is definitely the stereo AP. Gotta get both mono and stereo AP versions if you love the album though.

So I’ve been lurking on this thread for a while taking note of all these audiophile pressings I’ve slept on. Turns out I need to upgrade to the AP stereo of Pet Sounds, the 45 RPM of Serves You Right to Suffer, multiple MoFis, and maybe even a Craft small batch of Eastern Sounds.

Getting into record collecting was a mistake.

You forgot about Kevin Gray. You are gonna need lots of Kevin Gray.
