Definitive Audiophile pressings

Look, I'm a lot older than you and don't live in Australia so I have no idea as to food expenses. But on no planet should 1/3 of your income go to eating out. Nor should you spend 5% of your income in one day on eating out (see your Sunday).

By my calculations, you are eating 12 meals out a week. That's a bit much even if you were earning 4-5x that income.
I think a 1/3 of income on food is pretty reasonable because I’m spending 1/3 on rent + bills! The other 1/3 can go to other things like a bit of saving up, gym, car rego, petrol and vinyl! In terms of presents, I usually take the person out for brunch or dinner so that’s easy in terms of managing that with costs!

Yeah, I eat out a lot but I don’t have kids nor do I really drink alcohol or buy clothes and my bathroom + grooming expenses are really cheap! Plus, I’m single! So it works out nicely actually!

If something happens and I can’t afford to live like I currently am, I’ll be fine and I’ll just either be happy with what I have or strive to get back a job where I’m getting really good money! And whilst I’m young and might not afford to live this life in 10 years time, why not be a bit crazy and fun and live the lifestyle! 🙊😜

The RSD a release of Donny Live at the Bitter End from a few years ago is fantastic. I forget if it’s alternate takes from the Donny Live album or if they use some of the same cuts but it’s really awesome.

Looked it up the other day and was shocked at how pricey it’s gotten now though.
I didn’t even know about this so thanks for bringing that up! I’ll definitely check it out if there’s alternate takes from his classic Live album!
Honestly - just my opinion - the Live At The Bottom Line that came out a few years ago on RSD is the one to seek out. Duplicates one side of Live, and the rest is superior performances. Great sounding as well.
Wow, the rest of the material is superior performances!!! I’m definitely checking out Live At The Bottom Line now! 😍

I don't want to come off preachy, or tell you what to do, but you should be saving more than you currently are. Now, something is better than nothing, but as your expenditures were broken up, ya, I would try and save more. Just a "Dad" opinion ;)

Speaking of ordering too many audiophile records, I just ordered the Tony Allen. Thanks for the rec @uvwxVinyl . I love Tony Allen but never heard this album. Afrobeat-jazz? Good stuff.

No, I didn't buy the copy from that joker (who I hope would be bringing it over himself by helicopter... holy fuck).

Don't overpay for it..it's readily available and affordable. I got it from Amazon on sale down to 15€ it's 17.29 right now:

Amazon product ASIN B073CBPYJ8
Pressed at Optimal but I think it's one of those where they got their best team to press it. It has AAA stamped on the jacket.

Yeah Fuck- that’s a LOT of money eating out, if you halved that you would have an extra $160ish to put away for a rainy day, or even if you save a quarter- that it’s still $80/wk or $4,160 per year, In 10 years you have $41,600 plus interest!! But doing the automatic withdrawal into a separate Acc as Russ said is the way for you, then you won,t think about it and soon won't miss it. Start with whatever feels good, 10 % is a good start and if you do Overtime, maybe splurg on an album or whatever you want and save the other half . The power of compounding takes a long time, so the earlier you start the better things will be for you .
Ok done! I’m actually going to try and do this on my own from not next Thursday’s pay, but the Thursday pay after!

This is what my pay is going to be at a minimum wage, after tax, when I work 5 days a week with no overtime (strictly 8 hour shifts). And this is how I plan on managing it (I’ve done it before but it gets a bit messy because I go out and then spend $120-$150 when I go out - but no more of that!)

Weekly pay - $1000

Rent - $300
Car Park - $20
Electricity - $20
Hot Water - $15
Broadband - $15
Car Registration - $20
Petrol - $70
Public Transport - $30
Bathroom + Laundry stuff - $30
Gym - $20

So that leaves me with just a bit over $450 to spend on leisurely things! This is how I have mapped out in my head how that would be spent;

Food court lunch money = $100 per week ($20 allowance for each day for lunch)

Monday - $35 for dinner
Tuesday - $35 for dinner
Wednesday - $30 for dinner
Thursday - $50 for dinner (some nights will be cheap $20 nights, others will be more cocktail eating yummy food $80 nights)
Friday - Super cheap dinner / eat at my parents
Saturday - $30 for brunch (cheap dinner / parents for dinner)
Sunday - $30 for brunch & $20 for dinner in a suburb/non inner city suburb

= ($330 for food)

What do I do left with the $130?!

$50 for vinyl per week (this will afford me two add-ons for VMP/three ROTM’s per month, + one VMP exclusive and one RSD release each month).

$50 for groceries!

$30 - Put away for savings! 🤓✅

So, what do you think of this Russ? This plan is very similar to my spending habits but recently I’ve been earning around $1100-$1200 a week because of overtime, so that’s why I’ve been going out Friday and Saturday nights but I don’t want to do that anymore because it’s not so much me. Only once every fortnight would I go out! This is a plan on $1000 a week which is the minimum I’d get in a normal working week with no overtime. So if I do overtime, I can try and put even more away for savings and that means I will have more flexibility!

@NathanRicaud enjoy your life, you’re at a stage where you have nothing to stop you doing that.

We all know that you’re not the best with cash and were horrified by the pension thing but some of these reactions are downright preachy and judgmental.

It’s your first time living out of home and in the big city. Enjoy it. Don’t go into debt and try to save what you can afford but whatever you do don’t be in a situation where you’re sat inside on your own bored to save $50 one week. You’ll have plenty of time to sit in when you’re older.

On the days you do stay in though maybe cook yourself rather than takeout lol.

If you want to look into saving effectively a pay day standing order into a savings account with a different bank to that you hold your current account is usually a good option.

This is what I did and highly recommend it. It’s easy to spend money when you see you have it in your account. I opened a savings account with a different bank than what my other accounts are in and that’s where I deposit savings each month. I only really look at my checking and credit card statements day to day, so I never touch money in the savings and before you know it, you’ll have a nice sum saved away.

I think we are talking about the same album! It’s the Live at The Bitter End that I linked earlier. It really is awesome but prices have gone mental on it

Hey @MikeH ...that Neil young greatest hits arrived...scanned it into cogs and it is indeed that pressing and cane with the 7”
awesome! mine shipped but hasn't arrived yet. good to hear though!
Just received mine. So far it sounds great. Most Reprise analog from Neil Young sounds good anyways, so I had no doubt about this one.
There is not much info on Discogs for the 2021 version, so I will consider this is the 2004 version, everything matches.

Edit: I'll take that back, Cowgirl actually sounds bad. I didn't remember it sounding so gritty and muddy. Neil's voice is also a bit hot. I will need to re-listen to it after cleaning.

Fun nugget: about 18 years ago when my wife and I were dating, she gave me a 1967 VG/VG+ pressing of the Velvet Underground's first album. Sticker still on, but really a VG sleeve, albeit the sticker still being on is a find. She spent $100. (We were in love, the record is a favorite)

It has held it's value apparently...

The Velvet Underground & Nico (3) - The Velvet Underground & Nico

There's no real downside to having a smart wife. ;)

Anyone need Verve AS Love Supreme?

Thanks for the heads up.

This worked out swimmingly. I was hard pressed to find any issues with it outside the inner rice paper sleeve being kinda fucked up. The jacket is in pretty great condition slight corner bump and maybe a slight scuff on the glossy finish to the cover. I am fairly picky especially with Amazon and I wouldn’t have returned it.
