Definitive Audiophile pressings

Im definitely going for the UHQR 33. I rarely ever pull out my MoFi 45. I always reach for the 2013 mono.
Mmmmmmm good point! Do you think the upcoming 33RPM UHQR will easily sound better than the MoFi 45RPM Kind Of Blue?

I mean, the 33RPM UHQR will cost USD$100, so you’d think it would sound better than the MoFi 45RPM as that’s only USD$60!

It’s highly likely that it could. There will be two versions available. The 33 at $100 and the 45 at $125. Rumor is they’re using the old classic metal work that AP inherited through the acquisition.

Doubtful IMO. I had the Classic and the MOFI is much better. If AP is using the Classic plating, I would stick to the MOFI, unless you enjoy spending money to repurchase a late 50's 3 track recording in the hopes that there is still a bit left in the toothpaste tube.

Dang I actually did not like the MoFi at all, probably unjustified, but it just sounded off to me. The package is great though but I definitely preferred my Classic pressing with the second disc of sped up material and alt takes. I sold my MoFi for a little more than I paid for it after I just did not find myself pulling it out to play at all. I will definitely buy an Analogue Productions copy if it ever happens though.

Agreed. I will always go 2 LP 45 over 33 unless I know for certain the 33 sounds better.

If only we didn't have to pre-order stuff to be in with a chance of getting a copy. What a world it would be if we could listen to a record before dropping a £100, or at least have someone give a review.

From what I've read / seen around the internet, the UHQR 45 will probably sound better than the Mofi, although it will be expensive. I've heard that the Classic edition sounds amazing, but the MoFi, whilst great isn't that different to the mono 33 in terms of sound quality. I'm now there are plenty that have the opposite opinion & it might come down to personal tases on what system you are using.

I pretty much agree. Something about the MoFi just seems off. I’ve actually heard more often that people think it’s an odd sounding pressing more so than people that absolutely love it. To be fair, it’s not terrible. Just off.

Im at a point in my life that I really try to get 33’s over 45’s whenever possible. I love my Music Matters 45’s but they get far less play than their 33 counterparts.

I'm also a massive lazy bastard. It has to be one of my fave all timers to get me off my arse every 10 minutes instead of every 20

Its not really about laziness for me. It’s about breaking an album up into 4 sides and the fact that I have two kids under 4. I know people will argue the superiority of the 45 but to my ears, it’s rarely a mind blowing difference.

Yeah I can’t really pinpoint why I don’t like the MoFi because it’s objectively good. Instrument separation is good and the piano actually sounds good too but sometimes the bass is too bloated and the overall sound just doesn’t gel with me as much as other pressings.

EDIT, this was meant to be a reply...

Totally... my listening area is in the room adjacent to my kids' (4 and almost 1) play room, and I wouldn't even consider spinning a 45 while playing with them...

Oh yeah? Well I'll see your joy and fulfillment of parenthood and raise you a childless household with two dogs that wouldn't know the record player from their ass.
SO BRING ON ALL THE 45s TO FILL THE CHILDLESS CHASM IN MY SOUL
