Definitive Audiophile pressings

I know you have legitimate complaints and of course GZ sucks, but couldn't resist:

Hahaha yes yes, I'll send you the audio files and you can decide if the repetitive pops that occur for minutes at a time exactly 2 seconds apart each time, across 4 of the 6 sides, and coinciding with the mottled jacked up vinyl are what they are referring to... spoiler.... they are not...

I know man, I believe you, just always thought that was funny on the label.

I get it, my daughter's Trolls World Tour soundtrack LP sounds phenomenal, so deep and detailed.
But really though, the Trolls World Tour is a phenomenal sounding soundtrack with nearly all great songs. I have the gray vinyl I got for $10. I’ve had played the shit out of it in the past six months or so for my three year old. I’ve never worn a record out before but the Frozen soundtracks, Moana, and Trolls will get there eventually.

Agreed, the thing is I don't actually know which parts that actually applies to. All the streams I've heard sound completely clean.
Interesting. I am fuzzy on the history. I know original vinyl copies have it and therefore that note on the label. I have heard it blamed on a loose connection or something during recording. I believe there was at least a CD issue where they supposedly cleaned up the noise but I'm not sure if that extended to vinyl copies or not.

I have almost pulled the trigger on an original vinyl many times but never got around to grabbing it so I can't compare unfortunately.

So I was googling GZ pressing issues the other day and with my superior Google-fu came across this, which looks like an internal document. It's.... interesting. Scratches of less than 2 cm length and 0.5 mm width affecting audio quality are acceptable?

Christ, that's the LEAST of their issues...

Bless their hearts. They claim to limit warping to no more than 2mm deviation from the surface, measured with a "special tool."

There are warps but we have a special tool.

It's a jagged metal bar with a nail in it.

Warp problem solved so it's fine!

The special tool causes scratches.

But the scratches are each no bigger than 2 centimetres so it's fine!

There are hundreds of scratches each measuring less than 2 centimetres on every disc that are caused by our special warp tool but that's fine!

The scratches cause crackle.

The crackle goes for no more than one quarter of the length of the album so it's fine!

Yeah the tracks actually generally sound pretty good, I'm curious if the "crackle" they refer to on the labels is the constant low to medium level crackle that runs through the entire show or if that's GZ as well. That part is actually tolerable as it's a live show, but it doesn't sound like a cable, and I've tried 3 different streams and non of them have that same noise so they were all either cleaned up or that's an exclusive GZ bonus along with all the other issues. The real shame of the recording is that Pinball Wizard appears to be out of phase. Which is really strange because it's the only track that is. And it's a killer version but being OOP really kills the impact of it. Magic Bus is absolutely unbelievable though, killer killer version of it.

But honestly in general, if the pressing was good I think it's a pretty great album. The mastering is actually pretty good and hearing the live Who instead of the studio Who is a big yes in my books.

Picked up a few goodies this weekend. Made a trade for the Paul Simon One Step which sounds great. Also grabbed Hall & Oates Abandoned Luncheonette MoFi and Dylan - Basement Tapes MoFi from popmarket of all places.

That's brilliant. There are no shortages of 'Not OK' example photo's 😂
