Definitive Audiophile pressings

I already have the Mofi's of Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain but I'm curious about whether they're going to use the Bitches remaster for this one. It's REALLY cleaned up. I would consider a shootout between the two...
I have the MoFi sketches but would probably sell that one and at this rate it would pay for the one step…I haven’t heard the Bitches remaster nor have I heard the MoFi of that one. I have an OG copy but it’s not in great shape

OMG! The loaf I forgot about is less stale than that! One day I’ll want one again…

I love James Taylor’s GH but the Rhino that cost me €15 is more than good enough (it really is quite good).
They heard you wanted some 80’s titles and decided to do 6 Van Halen albums.

I like James Taylor’s greatest hits too but don’t need a $125 pressing of it. I’ll have to check out the rhino reissue. I’m genuinely excited about Bitches Brew though (but I know you don’t like jazz, to put it lightly). There isn’t really a great audiophile version of it and it’s not a title that has been done over and over again. It’s such an influential album and it’s so good so I’m happy to pony up for that one. But out of the next 20 or so that they have “announced” I’m only definitely in for 2 of them which is both a relief and disappointing.

I mean there is it's just not affordable. I'd argue that MOFI should just repress that version and save a one step for something, um, different. I'd say they're a one trick pony but really it's just that they know where their bread is buttered.

I mean I’m happy for everyone that likes these titles and I have nothing but respect for jazz musicians it’s just not for me. It is better than last years selection but that’s not hard!

It is just more same old same old from the old dudes. When they stated out MoFi were pressing 5-15 year old titles and 40 odd years later they’re still pressing the same era and genres.

I’d be interested to see if there’s anything interesting forthcoming in their normal lines. Sadly it’s likely just going to be another repress of Dylan, Davis et al just on super vinyl and for $20 more…

I’m excited for ELO actually. And Nilsson was fun. There’s been a big calling for them to do some titles that aren’t retreads but I have a feeling they will just start reissuing older titles on supervinyl like they just did with Iron Butterfly. What a joke that one was.

The enthusiasm for MoFi has been dying down a little bit and I’ve noticed that a lot have taken longer to sell out lately. Resale prices also aren’t as crazy lately. The one steps aren’t selling as well second hand.

That’s good. They have beautiful equipment and make a wonderful job of what they do but the picks are just so uninspiring. There is always 1 or 2 a year that will attract my attention but that’s about it.

I get why they retread the bigger acts they have rights for, I really do, they’re always going to sell 60s Dylan and Davis, it’s the fact that they don’t just keep them in print at a fair price but keep using gimmicks to sell them for more and also that they don’t use the space that gives them to mix in more interesting picks rather than just churning out increasingly uninspired picks from the same generation. At this stage though it’s more a weary disappointment from me than anything else.

Here's an interesting one. Ordered it awhile ago after someone's recommendation here I think but it finally came back into stock:

Ordered on amazon for $21. It sounds fantastic. Same stampers as the AP pressing, plated at RTI and cut at QRP.

Might have been me. I have that pressing and it's excellent.

When you max out the MSRP there isn’t gonna be as much meat left for the secondary market.

The picks just aren’t as good either. You might sell a beautiful Blood On The Tracks or What’s Going On or some of the bigger jazz artist that they did initially for big money but some of the dross they 1 Stepped last year is going to struggle to make the $125 going forwards.

Yea—picks not as good, more copies pressed and also there was a stretch where people bought solely to flip. Also some of those early titles didn’t have many great “audiophile” pressings. WGO didn’t really have a solid reissue before the one step.
