Definitive Audiophile pressings

Okay so here's what's happened...

Years ago I bought It Still Moves and Evil Urges, they were both godawful pressings. Warped crackly, horrible. So I got rid of them and gave up on getting them until represses happened. I JUST found out these April represses happened like... two days ago. So I bought Evil Urges and It Still Moves again, and while they aren't exactly spectacular they are still LIGHT year's better than the first copies I had. So now I'm thinking, okay are the other represses going to be this good. I kind of want At Dawn but it seems to be mostly only sold through their website and shipping is outrageous. And I want EITHER Okonokos or Live 2015. Okonokos is going to be over $100 up here, Live 2015 is $44. So IF Live 2015 sounds great I can probably just make do with that one. That's my thought process, thank you for listening.
Well - how much do you like the new stuff.
The Live 2015 is Waterfalls weighted.

The inclusion of At Dawn, Bermuda Hwy and The way he sings on Okonokos make it the more vital release if you are only buying one live release.

One other wrinkle ~ that 2015 is rumored to be the 1st in a series of live releases they are planning.
So if neither are good enough a future release may fit the bill.

They just put a preorder for a Okonokos reissue in colored wax. The original sounds great, cut by Chris Bellman and pressed at RTI. The reissue is definitely a new cut because it’s got bonus tracks added and it’s likely pressed at GZ since that is primarily where ATO presses.

Based strictly on the track selection, I would go Okonokos over Live 2015 if I were just gonna do one but they are both solid set.
Unfortunately the OG Okonokos is way too expensive now so that's out, but thanks for the advice on the track list. Perhaps I'll wait to see what kind of reviews the new pressing gets...

Thank you also @Viking Dan!

I picked up two KPG pressings today…

How is acid tongue? It’s the only Jenny album I don’t have…

I have yet to spin it but I am guessing it’s gonna sound superb, it’s cut by Kevin Grey and I think it was pressed at RTI; the Discogs entry mentions Rainbo but since this is a 2021 pressing and Rainbo shuttered in 2020, that may be something carried over from an older pressing. I hope to give it a spin soon though I am currently a bit backed up.

I assume it's the same KG plates as the original?

Just catching up on Laquer Gate. This is hilarious.

I thought it was well understood dub plates / lacquers wear out through repeated plays.
(Still amazes me these ERC pressings have so many issues)

Edit - & Fremer let's it slip about an upcoming AS BG cut of Way out West

What I can't wrap my head around, is how Fremer can't seem to wrap HIS head around the main reason for the ongoing criticisms of ERCs products... THEY COST $550. For that price you are not allowed the same leeway for bad packaging, or inferior pressings that other less expensive wide release pressings are afforded. You cannot compare the fail rate of a $550 limited ERC product to AP or Mofi. For ten times the price you'd better have ten times the QC.

SMDH, grown ass men arguing over their credibility while reviewing a $600(!) record is beyond obnoxious.

This is incredibly stupid. You’d think either of these guys could handle some mild internet criticism. The fact that both have now done responses is incredibly petty. Between both I will say Fremer seems to be better at setting aside personal issues when reviewing albums than Mike (especially considering all the sour grapes that got into his 30th anniversary Nevermind review). I appreciate the fact that both Mike and Fremer are around to give their opinions but neither is infallible. They need some thicker skin if they are gonna keep doing this internet thing.

Oh I completely agree, I got like a third into the "Coltrane review" and when it was nothing but complaining about Fremer I just skipped ahead 5 minutes... nope, still complaining... I just gave up and went and did something else. I don't watch either of these guys, I've read some Fremer reviews and generally I think they're well done. But I think he's off the mark on this one in terms of pointing at other labels fail rates. And I've been to TheInGrooveinphoenixarizona and thought it all overpriced and didn't buy anything... So yeah, this argument is very silly.

Oh also, I woke up to discover that NIGHTMather ordered the $100 4LP Okonokos repress last night. So I guess I'll have a review of that soon...

fucking guy
It’s nice and $100 isn’t a terrible considering the new repress retails for around $75. I bet the new one ends up being cut by CB too (but maybe not) and about 100% that the new one will be pressed at GZ. I got my copy back in the day for around $40 on Amazon and all my discs are flat but looking over the comment on Discogs it looks like a few people had some issues with warps but those sound minor so I be you’ll be happy with it.

No no, he ordered the REPRESS. The GZ one. The OG version you have is over $200. So it was the only option but... GZ.

This is the overriding feeling that I had as well.

I enjoy both Fremer's and MikeFromTheInGrooveInPhoenixArizona's videos but really there's no benefit from this level of pettiness and as @Mather said, the point about the outrageous price is pretty much ignored in Fremer's response. Justifying the commercial release of these sorts of things, without a critical review of the price, is just crazy and only leads to people buying into it (I know there are people out there that take these guys' words as gospel).

This arrived today. I'm not sure who in this thread was the enabler (the search on New Order doesn't work very well), but really excited to give it a spin.
