Definitive Audiophile pressings

Just ordered a japanese pressing of Goats Head Soup. The first record I was looking to get a clean vintage copy of when I started delving into japanese pressings. 35 japanese records later, I finally found a copy.

Do you have Black and Blue , the OG Japanese uses Sterling stampers , sounds real good ! Some Girls is another winner (sterling)

Yes! I have both of those - they are indeed superb. The quiet japanese vinyl makes them really shine. As an added bonus, Some Girls is the original die-cut uncensored jacket too.

I noticed something about the Japanese Rolling Stones pressings I've been getting. Turns out all my favorites come from the ESS series (78-80?). Several but not all have the green obi. I have Some Girls, Black & Blue, Sticky Fingers and Emotional Rescue from the ESS series and they're definitely the best of the 6 I have so far. Beggar's Banquet and IORR are both excellent too, but not as great as the other four from the ESS series. The Goats Head Soup I ordered happens to be from this series as well (I hadn't noticed the pattern last night when I ordered though, but this is promising). Anyway, thought it was interesting - I haven't seen anything particular about this series so I'm curious if this is a thing.

I don't know! I have the Japanese London and it sounds pretty good. But noticing how great my other titles of the ESS series sound, I'm curious. I probably won't get another copy because of price though.

I couldn't find a Japanese ESS Beggars Banquet on discogs. It's pre-Rolling Stones Records, so that's probably why. I have a DSD and a US London, so I will do a comparison and report back.

Is the consensus that the ESS Some girls is better than a clean US Monarch?

If you have a clean US they are probably similar, the upside of the ESS is silent playback, verses not so silent US vinyl . I only have ESS but from my research others say it’s as good as if not a bit better because of vinyl formula.

Was going to tag you about that but hadn’t watched it yet! I think the multitracks don’t exist if someone wanted to do a remix vs a remaster and that’s what the whole “reward” thing was about
