Definitive Audiophile pressings

Looks like it's still available from Craft? Is this the correct one @TenderLovingKiller® @Hemotep ??

Ugh, DHL will cost a zillion after shipping.
MUST FIND LOCALLY

Yup, that’s the one.

I think it's only around $25 each shipped for two. Want me to grab you one and send your way? Haven't shipped to Canada so not sure if that makes sense or not, just lmk.
I appreciate that, but the shipping even without duty will almost double the price so I'll just start searching up here. They aren't rare by any stretch but just have to actually see it in person to confirm.

So, are there any definitive audiophile versions of Nine Inch Nails' Pretty Hate Machine? Or at least a good sounding pressing?

I own zero NIN on vinyl and want to start with my favorite.
Are the reissues better than OGs? I always avoided reissues of this one since there seems to have been pressing issues. Not sure if that’s actually the case though. I have the original UK pressing and it’s fine but a little bright: Nine Inch Nails - Pretty Hate Machine

I have an OG TVT pressing (Germany) and the 2LP bicycle RE. It's negligible. I wouldnt call it an audiophile album to begin with. The 2LP Bicycle is straight. But my OG sounds good too. Something I Can Never Have has noise on both.

Next topic: the utter BS of the low number in a numbered set being relevant to anything. I (and many others) don’t buy the idea that they pull the first off the press (or wherever it goes when it’s ready to be sleeved) and have sleeve No. 1 sitting there ready to go.

I’m not saying earlier off the press isn’t relevant. By all accounts it is. Just saying I don’t believe the numbers on the sleeves correlate to the sequence off the press.

I’ve seen this in all things collectible and it’s silly.

I guess my original question was if it's worth digging for an original vs just paying $23 for the reissue. I usually would grab an OG if possible but I think if the sound difference is negligible I'd rather buy a new reissue that I could exchange if there's any issue.

Fair enough. I own exactly two of them at this point – the aforementioned What's Going On and Ryan Adams' Love Is Hell. I bought Blood On the Tracks when it first came out and preferred my OG over that, but a lot of what they've done are things I'm pretty happy with already.

If the White Album MOFI sounds that good, though, I should probably make a point to find a copy and check that out.

The 33 Blood On The Tracks was disappointing for sure. The One Step is utterly magic, hands down the best record in my collection…

I don't have that Craft (just the OG, Bicycle, and in the box set w singles). I think that linked Craft is the best option.

When I went down this road a few years ago, I ended up with the Ume 2LP with the metallic cover which I thought was pretty decent. It was apparently the version that Trent approved of, and he was pissed about the Bicycle Company reissues. Bicycle also did one with the metallic cover, which I believe the different covers means its a slightly different mix. I dont know the album well enough to know the difference there. There's a 1lp from Ume with the original cover as well that I read sounds like crap. The Craft I have no idea. Maybe that wasn't out there yet when I was looking. Seems to have good discogs reviews, and I always like having the original cover, so might be the way to go as well. Now I want to compare them!

My bad! I don't have the Bicycle 2LP (don't think they have a 2LP). It's the Ume I have that is 3 sides / 2LP. Same that @CrazyDiamond84 mentions

I also don't think the Craft was around when I picked it up (pre 2017). But for 23 and the reviews are gods...worth a shot.

I think the OG have a really good reputation but there was a remaster awhile back in like 2009 or 2010 that lots of people (I think even Trent Reznor) are not fans of. I think bad version has a shiny metallic cover and are put out by Bicycle.

This Craft reissue I think was was also remastered but done well and the reviews for that pressing are pretty great.

Yup, I'm going to grab the 1LP reissue directly from Craft. Thanks for the input everyone!

The Bicycle is what I have I think. NRP pressing IIRC. Nothing special. I didn't know there was something better available out there though.... guess I'll look out for the Craft. So basically, I look at the back of the jacket and avoid if it has the Bicycle logo?

While we're on the subject, what is the go-to pressing for Downward Spiral? The Fragile? The With Teeth reissue is stellar and really well priced (I believe @Mather is the one that put me onto that one).
