Definitive Audiophile pressings

I need a new copy of The Band self titled. Looks like the mofi version isn't an original master recording. So what's the best copy around?
I’ll chime in and say the the original Bob Ludwig cut is absolutely fantastic too. A little difficult to find a VG+ or better copy but it shouldn’t cost more than $30-$40 to find a great player. I have a clean OG and a remix. I like both but I definitely play the original much more. I also have a mofi of Big Pink and think that’s the best I’ve ever heard the original mix and the self titled also has great reviews. I don’t know why I never picked it up but I really should be on the lookout for one.

There’s certain days where I think it beats Big Pink but they both have their charms. If you want a brand new one, the remix is solid and much less “muddy, backwoods sounding” which may or may not be what you want. Otherwise plop down for a MoFi or an original ludwig cut. Make sure both sides have RL SS etched in the deadwax though. There’s several different cuts and some that have speed issues.

I'm also a huge fan of the remix of Big Pink. The album wasn't recorded in the basement; it was recorded in a proper studio, even though they apparently wanted it to sound like the Woodstock stuff. The original is charming and I love it too but the remix feels a lot more alive.

Haven't listened to the Brown album remix as much because I don't have it on vinyl (yet).

Anyone compare the MoFi and/or Bellmans to the Capitol Albums 1968-1977 box set versions?

I just got a notification that my US order of Lush Life from Craft has been cancelled, so maybe at some point soon it (and any other cancellations) will become available for sale through their website. I can't remember who missed out, but it might be worthwhile keeping an eye out.

I was never a HUGE fan of The Band but after starting to listen to The Dead earlier this year, I've been in a more for more 70s laid back tunes. I threw the self-titled MoFi into my cart about 6 months ago to get free shipping on another MoFi at Music Direct and I'm glad I did haha. Didn't know it was so close to being OOP. Music Direct then did the douchey move of selling their last few copies at like $100 or somethin crazy.

I'd keep an eye on ebay. Might not be able to find as many in the UK but every once in awhile people still sell it there for close to the original $35 price tag.

I know & love some of the ones, but like you don't really know the albums. I was thinking of picking it up when it jumped to $100. I'll keep looking, it's not like I haven't struggled to find any vinyl to spend money on :)

There are a LOT of unhappy people on Instagram today that have missed out of the Craft One-Step. I've seen a lot of stories of people complaining that it sold out too quickly. I posted a photo on my own story and had replies to it saying its unreasonable to have only pressed a small amount. I imagine they could have added an extra 500 to the numbers, or even doubled it, and it would have still sold out. Dont even get me started on these embarrassing eBay listings, im going to send a £50 offer to fuck with the guy (it is second hand after all!!!)....

I maybe shouldn't have cancelled that US pre-order :)

So this was something you initiated? Not just a random cancellation?

yeah. I ordered on the US website before seeing it was available on the international site & before I saw the discount code. I then made another order on the international store & emailed them to cancel the first. They just e-mailed me back & processed the refund about 20 minutes ago.

I suspect they must be going through all their e-mails now, so at some point soon (unless they oversold), will have to make any cancelled orders available to the public

Apologies, forgot about that. Was the one that got cancelled a separate order, or did you pre-order 2 & then get one retrospectively cancelled after they changed the terms?
I made one order for full price at 1040AM before it even launched. I was trigger happy and didn't want to waste time trying to try the coupon code. Then I went back and made sure that it said 2 per customer (which it did) and placed a 2nd order with coupon code to grab one for my friend. They ended up cancelling one of them (the first order). They left my 2nd order which was discounted. My CC still has a pending charge for both though. It seems that people who ordered 2 on the same order haven't gotten a cancellation yet. I bet they just went through and saw who placed 2 orders and cancelled one of them instead of actually looking at the time stamps compared to when they changed the amount. @Russ I did you end up grabbing 2 in one order? Did anybody else here? Curious if they kept those or not. A friend of mine got 2 at discounted price and hasn't had a cancellation yet, but just wondering if they will go through those orders next and cancel any.

No, I just ordered 1, with the discount code (thanks for that!).
