Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

Great, now we're all going to have to card catalog our record collections!
Hey we invented online catalogues about 30 years before Discogs was even an idea.

I entered a grand total of 1 entry into Discogs about 15yrs ago just to have a little shit try and school me on the difference between format and edition. Nope, don't need to put up that sort of crap when I paid to do it for a living.

Between the RSD tag and the "holiday" style added a few days ago, there have been a lot of mass messages being sent out.

But since I took care of all my RSD releases, they aren't getting sent in various increments.

Got some recent MOFI Miles Davis purchases and it looks like they've added the sourcing information to the back of the jacket on this most recent run. Is that difference enough for a new Discogs listing?

Fuck the discogs editor!

I just added 20 credits with about 8 new artists. Now it's giving an error for missing credit name, missing credit! There are zero empty cells!
It won't tell me where the missing segment is, either!

Edit: Thankfully I figured out to open a new browser page, then systematically delete a credit and preview/submit to see changes. Fortunately it was only the third credit in the list that was the offending one.

Another DIscogs "issue" that I could use some advice on from you lovely people.

I went to place an order from a seller that has the shipping stated as being France. All good. As soon as I go to pay its showing "Standard - Russian Post". I have messaged the seller to ask where the item is coming from, but I thought items from Russia had been banned for sale? And even if they arent, I believe there has been quite a large tax added following the conflict?

i've got this two-track, unlabeled cd-r in a white cardsleeve that is professionally produced (inner markings indicate KJRY) that i received from a member of the band violent soho way back in 2009 at a raveonettes/black angels show they were opening at here. "violent soho" is handwritten on the front, and "12th Nov / 7th St. Entry" is handwritten on the back, which was to promote their own show that was here just a couple weeks later.

is this even worth adding to discogs at all? i have to imagine there are other identical copies out there, perhaps with different handwriting on the sleeve but the same promo cd-r. if this was a cd-r the band made on their own computer with memorex discs or something i'd feel like it wouldn't even be a question to add it, but since this cd-r was professionally done with identifiable codes that maybe it should be?

thoughts?

I've got a question which I havent come across before. Any reason why a record would be shown as unsold (no median etc) in my 'collection' but sold with a median etc when I go onto its actual page?

The example below is what im referring to. In theory the price (a whopping £700) should be showing between the "Modern Jazz Quartet" and "About 1 Year Ago".

Guessing but it was sold and then order was refunded/canceled?

Question about selling to Canada:

I've been selling LPs and CDs on Discogs for two years - US only. I finally decided to (possibly!) start selling in other countries. Seems like the easiest place to begin is Canada.

Any advice on setting shipping rates? Shipping policies?

Is Japan the next "easiest" country to ship to?

I've read that using Pirateship for shipping to Canada is a no-brainer. Anything I need to know before jumping in?

THANKS in advance.

Pirate is good about rates but not exact; the usps will sometimes retroactively charge you what you owe. I haven't had this with international but with something they said wasn't mediamail when it was. Mailing to Canada is like 25 ish USD for a 2lb record mailer which is around 2 to 4 LPs well-packed.
