Discogs - Help, Tricks, Secrets And Tips

You guys think you are pissed now about Discogs new fees?

Forgive me if it was already mentioned, but Discogs doesnt currently charge a fee on the shipping portion, only the item price.

So they arent just raising the fee by 1 percent they are including the shipping cost too. Therefore their email about raising your prices 1% wont cover your actual new costs.

Total BS

I calculated one order and if i raised prices 1% on the item cost it would be .32 more. However the new fee including shiping is .93 higher.

Yeah. I don't know how legal it is to charge a fee that includes the shipping cost. I thought Ebay tried that but backed off - either because people screamed enough - or they found out it's not legal. I haven't sold on Ebay for years, so maybe they do it now.

I know this is to combat the sellers that sell cheap, but have a high shipping cost - this is so they avoid paying the high fee to Discogs.

I suppose you could offer free shipping - and then raise the rates a bit.

I did. It's amazing to me how so many of these places don't understand keeping this industry thriving. At some point people just aren't going to pay the higher prices. VMP has been big in getting interest in the early days, and now it's all about monetizing. Don't love seeing that guy roll over to Discogs.
I'm mean they're not going to. When half of the people buying records don't even have a table. lol.

eBay charges a fee on the buyer's total cost, including the item price, shipping price AND TAXES COLLECTED!

A problem with offering free shipping but raising prices overall is that method doesn't encourage buyers to purchase multiple items to save on shipping.

My new Discogs channel fee is 14.8% and my average on ebay is 14%.

eBay has more traffic/sales and I already charge a higher margin...

So, I'm not much of a "community organizer," but wouldn't it be pretty easy for a large number of sellers to just suspend their accounts at the same time? Say May 21? (It takes two clicks to delist your entire store inventory.)

I've sold to 100ish different buyers in 2023. Easy enough to start messaging them with a plan to close shops on May 21. And ask them to pass it on to their friends/buyers.

Just sayin'.

Anyone else having issues with Cogs not loading images, or loading then initially and then sweet looking through a few albums they all stop loading? Been like that for a month at least for me...

I don’t think so… where exactly? It’s ok here whether it is the mini image in my collection, when I do a search and on the release pages.

Strange. It's everywhere but it takes a few minutes of looking around the site before they start failing

That is odd. I've not experienced anything like that. And there have been occasions when I spent quite a bit of time surfing around the site to decide what to put into an order. Even when I order outside Discogs.
