The La Scala's have never looked as good to me as they do now, but the Forte is the more practical alternative for me. I've had my eye on a Forte model ever since my days reading "Stereo Review", but never pulled the trigger. I've had my Thiels for a long time now, so maybe a trial change is in order.

I'm very much team Forte, although my grandfather had a pair of original La Scalas that I imagine will eventually pass down to me.

I'm sure the La Scala's sound wonderful, never read a negative comment on their sound quality, but the shear size and esthetic make them "situational" at best for most buyers, let alone the price ;)

I would love to hear them some day though :)

They sound big and effortless, like the Klipschorns, but their bass extension isn't as tremendous.

They're definitely not for everyone given the price and size (behemoth) as you mentioned, so for that reason the La Scala's, as great as they look and sound, are simply not all that practical imo.

I mean, they're not impractical. They're cabinet-height boxes that can be treated as shelving.

My grandmother has managed to arrange two separate living rooms around them without any issues.
 
Okay folks, let's say you have $500 USD to spend on a pair of bookshelf speakers. These would be running to a NADC316BEE and a SACD player. They do not need stands. What are you buying?
