My Zen triode amp sounds terrific through my DWs. What they say about its "holographic" soundstage is true.

I have a general inquiry, do some speakers sound “better” at lower volumes than others. After moving into an apartment I want to be courteous but enjoy my music, my ELAC floorstanding speakers have always sounded better to me when the are really pushed, however I have little to no experience with anything else so it could just be they sound “better” at higher levels because it’s simply louder.

My ELAC F6.2 sound best at Very Loud. This is likely because they are relatively low sensitivity. Louder always presents as better but I had several lesser speakers before that while they could never sound as good as the ELAC they still definitely sounded good at like conversational levels; levels these speakers are just kind of annoying at.
Why not buy a Technics when they are available?Anyone on the forum using the Luxman PD-151? I've seen a couple of PD-171A users. I've become quite smitten with the PD-151 from reviews and pictures, but it's a big outlay. If I go to our local Luxman dealer "just to take a look" now, I'm liable to walk out with one and a dent to the credit card. Can anyone attest that it's as good as the periodical reviews? I'd been peeking at the VPI Prime 21, but the Luxman turned my head. Neither consideration would do much to help the kids' college fund!
Edit: I’d definitely buy a Technics 1200/10G over the Luxman when they are available.

Being a big Luxman fan, I looked at both the PD171 and PD151 about a year or so ago. Loved the look of the PD171 that my dealer had.. he thought it was one of the last around at the time as the model had been discontinued. He offered it to me for 40% off list, just didn't bite the bullet. He sold it a week later.
I have looked at the 151 a few times, but honestly at this point that one is old tech too IMO. I feel like I saw somewhere that Luxman was working on a new table or two.
I ended up choosing to get a Technics 1200G, which has been on order since 12/20 or so.. maybe Luxman will announce their new turntable before my G order gets fulfilled.. lol. I also keep an eye out for used PD171's though tbh...

you might want to think about Linton's if you move your Maggie's, etc. From reports they sound very good at moderate volume levels but also have a very solid low end. I had some B&W when in a smaller space that sound very good at low-mid volumes.

The Klipsch Heritage speakers that I have heard (Heresy III's, Forte III's and Cornwall III's) are amazing at low levels.. one of my favorite things about my Forte's tbh..

If get a Schiit Valhalla two headphone amplifier can I use the output to run to my preamplifier, long story short I can’t use the headphone amp on my setup the way I have it configured.

"seems" that way with the "pre out", but you may want to double check with Schiit cs to be sure.
ps If you want a nice warmer tube sound watch for a pair of Amperex made in Holland 6DJ8 (not cheap but worth it, but be careful of fakes)

I just want a headphone amplifier and the Schiit is within my budget, only my turntable will be connected but without the output it wouldn't work for my application. Thanks for the input.

I’m not a big fan of the Technics 1200G tonearm. I’d prefer the Jelco for resonance control, despite the fact that they are now out of production. If Luxman is working on a new turntable, it’s likely at least partially due to Jelco folding up shop last year.
