Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

For very rich Brian Eno enthusiasts.
Looks to be a debut carbon esprit with a lexan lightbox built around it. Could probably create this for about $50.00. Looks cool though.

Ultrasonicallyvioletly cleans as it plays the record!! ;)

I'm curious to know 🤔 which camp are you
In...Klipsch or Wharfedale? Which two large tower speakers 🔊 would you pick...Klipsch RP-8000F or the Wharfedale Diamond 💎 12.4?

Kinda depends. Klipsch Heritage series speakers are superb. The RP series are very good but I consider them more home theater focused by design. They'll blow the doors off the Wharfedales in that context but I imagine the Wharfes are better suited for music listening.

I’m back on my search to jump into a new phonostage and near certain I’m landing on a Hana SL as my dive into MC cart world.

I’m coming from my upgraded Lounge Gold and I’d like to stay below $3k on the new phonostage and am looking at this as being a bit of an endgame piece for me. I really don’t want to keep chasing from here and something that will keep me plenty satisfied for years to come. I’ve been eyeing these three and would take any feedback, pros/cons to those who’ve used these in the past or pairing with the SL.

Manley Chinook - the special edition that Upscale sells has really caught my eye with plugging into a full tube setup (as much as I can at the moment). This is really as far as I’ve wanted to take my budget and could buy this new but seems as though used units are harder to come by.

Gold Note Note PH10 + PSU10 - this pair seems a bit more attainable on the used market and with lots of ease for adjusting as needed

Sutherland 20/20 + LPS - of these three I get the sense that this set comes available the most but with mostly glowing reviews

I don’t necessarily want to open things up that much further beyond these three but could hear other ideas if another pairing would be more ideal and remember some folks in these parts had experience with these pieces.

I can vouch for the 20/20 though not with the Hana SL. That said, given my experience with Manley to this point I would probably go in on the Chinook if it has the right settings for you.

For some reasons that link doesn’t work for me…

This is the one I owned back then

This is the US release.

They did a lot of this catalogue to SACD from the original master tapes back then and all the ones I had sounded amazing. That yellow sticker on the cover was the giveaway when you’re looking at them on cogs.
Thanks Joe I found this release locally and should have it in hand on Wednesday. I've tested out the Arcam CDS27 this week with standard CDs and also as a streaming box and it sounds great. The Arcam streaming app is absolutely terrible and if it was ever going to be used as a streaming box you'd HAVE to find another method to connect to it because Arcam MusicLife is nigh on useless and constantly disconnects, BUT in this case is doesn't matter as it won't be used that way. I'm really eager to hear how BOTT sounds as a SACD as I don't have this one on vinyl.

I've been happy with the Gold Note pair and can attest to its versatility and ease of use. It's great having two phono inputs with the option of MM/MC for both.

No worries. I really liked that SACD when I had it, but it’s probably a decade since I last heard it! From my memory Freewheelin’ was the best sounding from that series.

Yeah I’d heard terrible terrible reviews of that streaming app. If it has AirPlay, Cast or Spotify/Tidal Connect I suppose you can just ignore it after it’s connected to the net?

You know I’m going to say Sutherland. The $3k mark puts you in a preowned Duo though. I paid $3199 for a “demo” Duo from MD. Demo is in quotes because it was brand new. A used one will come in under $3k. Mine is not for sale. It’s endgame for me.

I’m partial to solid state phono stages. They tend to be quieter as far as noise/hum. Tubes also naturally degrade in use- solid state doesn’t. In an amplifier, ok, no big deal. In a phono stage when you are dealing with a signal in millivolts as opposed to volts, I’ll pass on tubes.

Yeah I think Airplay works but I'm pretty certain Airplay goes through the phone first and therefore can't do proper high res streams. Whereas Tidal Connect and Music Life is a direct connection that avoids playing through your phone via Bluetooth (at least this is what I've found from reading up on it online) and therefore allows for proper high res... but Tidal Connect doesn't appear to work. Either way no biggie, but seeing some nice res numbers streamed through the crappy Arcam MusicLife app...

Yeah, Airplay currently maxes out at CD quality, I believe. There’s no reason they couldn’t expand the spec, but they haven’t.
