Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

um guys, I have lots of notes:

low hanging fruit - why do I need a force tracking scale for my crosley, why do i need a preamp for my crosley? My knife to open my records cost more than my turntable... etc...

“You won’t need speakers either as it has built-in ones”

😳 😂

At least it’s consistent for them. I don’t like most of the music on their “lists” either.

But seriously, recommending a fancy box cutter that costs more than the record player? What kind of crap systems do they have?

Yeah I totally get all of that. I was a year without CDs at all after the previous one died and before I bought the newer one. I didn’t miss them at the time because I love my vinyl more but damn the Jays is so good that it has me spinning more CDs than I have at any time since I started collecting vinyl!
The Washington Post recently ran an article regarding CD collecting:

“Collectors, eager for a CD renaissance, were excited when, in 2021, CD sales experienced their first uptick in sales volume year over year since 2004. … But the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), which tracks the quantity and medium of American music sales by gathering data from the major record labels and third-party sources, has no data to indicate that CDs are making a comeback. RIAA Research Director Matthew Bass says that if any physical medium is here to stay, it’s vinyl.”

Yeah I get that but equally I owned about 1200 CDs before I ever started collecting vinyl. That’s been trimmed down to about 600. Im probably buying less than 20 a year as sort of the ones by artists that I already have their catalogue on cd, enjoy listening to them occasionally but don’t want to invest vinyl money in them. There is also a wealth of music available second hand that was never pressed on vinyl, or was pressed in very small volumes on vinyl, and is not likely to get a new press anytime soon. It’s fun to have options. I don’t see either going away fully, certainly gear wise, in the medium term.

And second hand cds are a really good deal at the moment - I’m kinda gap filling collections to get the complete catalog on CD at the moment - although my shelf’s are now at capacity- so that’s a slow down needed (again!)
