No to the luxman. The luxman is always powering the speakers. You’re effectively using the arcam as a surround sound preamplifier. It is doing all the decoding and placing things in the channels and then sending that over to the luxman to power the speakers.
Oh okay perfect, so all the surround sound speakers and sub stay connected to the Arcam, the L & R L100s connect to the Luxman (or whatever amp) and then I'm running a left and right RCA cable from the Luxman to the Arcam?

Exactly that. On the bottom left on the back of the arcam you’ll see Pre amp outputs. You connect the FL and FR with a set of RCA to whichever input on the Luxman is the HT bypass. When it’s on that the luxman’s pre amp and volume control is bypassed and if is effectively a power amp for the front l and r in the 5.1 set up.

This is exactly what I want. Except Luxman don't appear to have sub inputs... So presumably the sub wouldn't work for 2 channel listening.

For a low level connection you can go from the pre out. For a high level from the speaker taps.

If it’s connected to the luxman either way it will just give you the same 2 channel output as the speakers regardless of ht or not. It needs to be connected to the arcam for the specific HT placement. Then obviously it doesn’t work with the luxman ever.

Potentially if connected to the pre outs it might not even work in HT bypass mode because you’re bypassing the preamp 🤔

Aaaaaand I'm lost. If the Luxman doesn't have a sub output presumably it doesn't support them so it would be useless in that 2 channel setup no?

My amp doesn’t support a sub through a dedicated sub out either but I can use one with a high level input. It takes the signal from the speaker terminals and the low level filter is applied in the sub then rather than in the amp.

Similarly the pre out on the luxman will send the full audio signal to a sub that doesn’t have a hi level input. I think that’s the case with yours from a quick google. The filter will again be applied in sub. You might have to dial it in again. You’d connect the right and left on the pre out to the right and left on the sub with RCA cables.

Okay, got it. Awesome thanks this is very helpful. That Luxman has a "pre out" and a "main in" RCA which I'm guessing might be where I'd connect the Arcam AVR to. I'm assuming the sub would go to the pre out. Sub does not have speaker posts, just L & R RCA. Still can't find anything as to which outputs feed the HT Bypass but looks like it's Main In

This is the back of your arcam. At the very bottom left there are 8 RCA outs. You’re outputting from the two marked FR and FL

And yes info fhe main in and you press fhe “separates” button on the front of the luxman to bypass its preamp and feed that signal straight into its power amp.

Okay last question

Can I haz $13,000 in Canadian bills for this amp pleaz and thank you

TBH I haven't even looked at what any of these sound like yet, and that Rose doesn't appear to have bypass anyhow so it's pointless but damn I love how it looks.

Yeah it looks great. When I was looking for the manual for the luxman I found this list which may be helpful to you!

Yes I was looking through that one actually. I'm not sure if it's up to date as the newer Luxman seemed to have a similar input setup, but they aren't listed. But it's a good resource. This could actually be the perfect time to get that McIntosh I've always wanted. But I'm not certain it could be put inside a cabinet with all the heat they give off.

Wouldn’t a McIntosh cost the same or more than the lux? (The lux is prettier)

I think most class a or ab integrated or power amps won’t go well in a cupboard or av unit unless there is a good 5-10 cm above and an open front and back.
