Hoping someone can give me a hand with a cart and capacitance question..

New table has an SME 3009 S2 Improved (removable headshell). It has been reworked with Cardas wiring and Dave at Vinyl Nirvana says his arm guy estimates about 150pf including rca plugs.

I am planning on using a Shure V15III which likes about 400pf typically. I can’t find any data on the 20/20 and if that will add anything to the party, but I’m assuming about 100pf?

250pf total is going to leave me short of ideal.

I’ll obviously give it a listen upon arrival and see if I notice anything, but is there way to increase pf in this stream without a different phono stage that has pf adjustments if I needed to?

Longer interconnects!

edit: any decent interconnect should tell you pf per foot, so once you have an idea of the rest of your chain you can wire accordingly.

I hope this question is ok here bc I didn’t see a thread dedicated to technical questions.

What (if anything) would happen if I connected two sets of cables to the balanced and unbalanced lines out from my CD player? Currently, for regular listening, the CD player connects to integrated amp with balanced connection. The CD player also has a set of RCA outs.

I have a new use-case involving a pre-recorded radio show, and, for the show, I want to be able to record music from the cd player onto my computer. I have an audio interface with line-level inputs and DAW software for this purpose.

Importantly, the back side of my system is not easy to access, so I cannot regularly switch out cables. In other words, I cannot unplug the balanced connection every time I want to connect the CD player to the audio interface. Instead, I’m hoping to use the RCA outs on the CD player for this purpose.

In that scenario, the CD player would have cables plugged into the balanced and RCA outs. I’d connect the RCAs to the audio interface when recording and power down the integrated so that there will always be only one active connection from the CD player. Will that work or will the fact of two connected outs from the CD player affect the signal from the CD player into the audio interface?

If it helps, I think a simpler way to approach the same question would be to eliminate the radio show use-case and imagine that I wanted to connect the CD player to two different amps, with one powered down at all times.

It depends on the player to be honest. Some will output from both all the time and others will output from only the one that’s connected and connecting both will confuse the fuck out of it.

In your shoes I’d get on to the manufacturer before I tried anything.

Helpful to know, and that’s what I was worried about. Player is Technics SL-G700, and manual seems silent on this as far as I can tell. Unfortunately, I’d be shocked if I could get Panasonic to reply if I ask the question.

I don’t see how it would harm the cd player, easy enough to try. As Joe said, some mute one output but many just use an internal splitter and keep both sets of outputs live.

There is a Kinki Studio EX-M1+ for sale on Audiogon.

I seem to remember someone on here interested in one. I have listened to many amps and it’s still my favorite.
Thanks. There was one for $2050 earlier this week that got taken down (maybe sold but it’s still up on eBay under the same seller’s name). Weirdly that one was also in Augusta Georgia but a different seller. And the write up is exactly the same…the other seller had no feedback. Slightly worried it is a scam.

Don’t do it unless the seller is trustworthy.

Mmm, I recall the earlier additions didn’t have the gold heat sinks on top and the volume knob had 256 steps as opposed to the current one has 100. There may be some technical stuff on top of that but I can’t recall, I remember buying whatever I could get a good deal on and not feeling like I’d be missing out on something.

I don’t even know the difference between the EX-M1 or M1+

The M1+ has a preamp out and HT bypass features so it can be used as a preamp only or a power amp only. I like have the preamp output for subwoofer duty.

I forget—anybody know if there were any big changed between the last iteration of the Kinki ex-m1 and the current one?
The volume control change is the big thing they have been pushing on the latest. I don't remember the details of how it works, but I believe that's the main change.

I've been following those ones on audiogon, but I think I'm going to focus on power and maybe cartridges first.

I found an older model EXM1 for $1600…but feel like maybe it’s better to go for a newer model and wait a little
