Equipment Recommendations - The Home For New System and Upgrade Advice

i will preface this with "i know nothing about cables or balanced" but how does one go from RCA to TRS? or can you go RCA to XLR?

You can get pseudo balanced cables that will pass the signal fine but I won’t be balanced into a single ended input and it’s not the best call. I definitely wouldn’t do the opposite of going single ended into a balanced input, so RCA into TRS or XLR without some kind of gain/converter stage between, I think decware does one. Balanced has its pros and is something I like but I’d always say it’s best to go single ended to single ended or balanced to balanced.

That said @MikeH you totally can get pseudo balanced cables that will work either way if it’s a no other choice kinda situation, it’s not what I’d choose if it was my call though.

not really in the market for these right now, but just something i was curious about! so ideally, you'd want a TT that outputs balanced, then a power amp that does balanced and a preamp that does balanced....none of which i have haha.

Yeah I gotta say I don't see this sales strategy Pro Ject is going for as doing well AT all. I think people are going to see all this info about balanced outputs and whatnot and just immediately turn the page because WHO HAS TIME FOR ALL THAT SHIT.

Well TTs are actually balanced as they come…

But if I was going balanced I’d ideally want both devices that are connecting to one another to have the option to be balanced..

i guess if i was starting from scratch, maybe i'd go for an all-balanced rig. but definitely not gonna double back...

I think given that you can run all those tables single ended as well it’s probably not that big a deal, and they’re not the first to aggressively push balanced, but while it has its benefits they’re probably most seen in pro audio or if you’re running a big cable run from a pre to a power amp next to speakers and that’s often a strategy of the super rich and we need to eat them right now

I don’t have the whole set up balanced but I do between the phono and the pre and between the pre and the power but I’m not using any pseudo cables and both ends of the connection are properly balanced.
