I think the only downsides to the Switch option are lack of achievements, a tiny bit of slowdown in very busy rooms, and joystick wear if you use your joycons vs. a controller. Minimal issues compared to other ports.

That's why I was gonna grab it on PS4, sometimes I end up playing games longer when I can work to a platinum. I find that a lot of times Steam has so many achievements that I am less likely to do them because some are almost impossible. Using a pro controller so far.

I picked it up on Switch and am loving it. No idea what I'm doing but so far got to the Hydra with the bow, which I initially didn't want to play with, but did much better than the sword when I tried it. The Special seems kinda useless though.

Still not sure what things are best to get in terms of blessings, didn't figure out how to use calls until that Hydra fight.

Gave a nectar to Cerberus and Skelly. Who should I do next?

The bow's special is pretty pointless in the base build IMO (it becomes super good later on). I'd probably try to get a boom like Ares (doom damage) or Aphrodite (weak) on it to spread a status to a lot of enemies. Sword is my least favorite personally.

It can vary a ton in terms of blessings / boons so try everything. I generally like to get something on my attack and special quickly to get the damage boost and start building extra boons towards it, though some casts can just run through the early game. If you see Divine or Tidal Dash grab that, it makes it much easier for a while. I generally get my call last in my runs.

I'd say early nectar priorities beyond those two are the Gods you find in the field, Hypnos, and Nyx. You'll discover more characters too but get everyone one that you can before repeating.

Crossed another game off the backlog! Finished River City Girls yesterday. Got all the achievements except the co-op ones. Super fun game, I can't recommend it enough. Lots of Easter eggs and references to the River City universe, and other franchises like Dodgeball and Double Dragon. Great music, great voice acting, multiple endings, and hard difficulty is more challenging, but completely doable. In fact, when I did my hard playthrough, it was on new game+, which also adds some difficulty to the game. However, at that point I had gotten good enough at the combat that even some of the stuff that tripped me up in the first playthrough was way easier. I ended up doing 3 playthroughs total - regular, hard New Game+, and New Game+ with one of the secret characters. I could have done the third playthrough for the second, but I didn't realize there was an achievement tied to it. I started with Kyoko though to get the lvl. 30 achievement, and by the time I realized there was a secret character achievement, the secret characters were too under leveled for the fights.

Also, they did a speedrun of it at GDQ recently that had the devs. Lot's of cool insight into the game:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Campaign/Story mode "Spirits" was unexpectedly great. I finished it a couple of days ago but wanted to share here. It took me 26~ hours to complete. I had not played a Smash game since Brawl so I was not expecting anything like Spirits in this game. I'd have been fine with the classic 1P mode and Adventure mode like Melee had. It was genuinely challenging and once I completed the first area, I thought "okay the game is over now" NOPE. Another region, got to the end of that "okay the game has to be over now!" NOPE. Another region. It's not that I wanted it to end after each one because it was so fun. Once you unlock newer 4 Star spirits it got a little easier but the beginning of the game before you figure out how to use everything and types to your advantage was rough.

I had expressed disappointment in the most recent Pokemon game a couple of weeks back, and for a game that is not Pokemon, Spirits did a better job IMO. It has a huge map where you travel in a mostly linear path defeating enemies, picking up spirits (collecting pokemon/badges). It scratched that lingering Pokemon Itch I had when I played Pokemon.

As for characters, I am a Pikachu loyalist. I seems that most characters are pretty evenly matched. There doesn't seem to be too many overpowered characters compared to weaker ones. I was even using Kirby a lot in Spirits because his up+B is great to spam in Stamina battles.

What character does everyone here use to Smash?

Pit/Dark Pit, Lucario, Wolf and R.O.B. were probably my usual cycle, with a little Bowser and Young Link here and there. Haven't played in years though ha. I really liked the Spirit mode too!

I recently just picked this back up myself after not playing it since late 2019. Lots of fun and varied battles. Had a funny one last night where I was fighting a DK with a hammer. One quick counter from Marth and it was over. I also love how the spirits work. I was struggling with a fight against Iggy that had high winds and water, but swimming was blocked. I switched it up and used a spirit with 3 slots. I then filled all three with wind resistance, and didn't move at all in the next fight, which was a joke to win at that point. I honestly have no idea how far in I am, I think I've put a solid 15 hours or so in total.

Also, I'm an OG Kirby main, loved that I got to start the whole thing with my favorite.

Kirby is so good in tight spaces in Spirits. Against actual people he is less than good because he launches so easy. I usually sit on the side, mostly, and spam/snipe with Pikachu. Pikachu is also pretty lightweight so on a small map with 3 other people it's chaos and I'm at 80% damage in 3 seconds. I absolutely hate multiple people online battles unless it's a teams battle. 1 vs 1 with Pikachu is so much easier.

Agreed, I usually switch to someone in the medium weight area for fights with real people. Beyond the launching, real people tend to not fall for the down-b bait as often.

26 runs into Hades, and still loving it. I've been to Theseus & Asterius in Elysium about four times now, and starting to form a bit of strategy against them. Last fight I had against them, I had Asterius down to about 1/5th of his health. That was on a run where I had no death defiances left, so I went full ham since I had a strong build.

The personality that is imbued into every inch of this game is wonderful.
