Everything Video Games!

Okay, I knew it would likely come to this, but I didn't think it would be today.

I just bought a XBox Series X for the sole purpose of playing Starfield. This system is likely going to have one game on it, like, forever.

Also in doing this I have almost certainly guaranteed that Starfield is going to be a irredeemably unmitigated disaster.

I've been waiting like, 6 years for this to come out? Something like that, and it was supposed to come out for PS5, then Microsoft bought the damn software company and NOPE. So here I am playing right into it and buying the damn system for this one game. Although there are a couple other exclusives that I'm interested in. Got Gamepass and downloaded Microsoft Flight Sim. Currently attempting to crash a Airbus A380 into my house.

On a scale of 0 to “One Man’s Sky” how bad is the launch gonna be?

Speaking of, did they ever get that game workable? Because it always looked pretty neat.

Potential to be very bad. Bethesdas launches are usually very very janky.

And yes they did get no man's sky going pretty well, but it's still all procedurally generated so you really kinda of have to find your own story... But it's a pretty incredible feat and definitely worth a look

apparently Bethesda would have released Starfield like over a year ago, but Microsoft really wanted them to take extra time to polish it as much as possible, to where even a few months ago they were saying if they were to release it Starfield would have the least amount of bugs of any Bethesda game ever. so hopefully with the the extra work since then has it in an even better state

Yeah I really really hope so. I don't really trust Todd Howard when it comes to promotional quotes however. This game is so much bigger than anything they've ever done and it's systems are so different, spaceflight etc... to anything they've had in previous games, I just really hope they got it locked down. I know the word on the street was that Redfall was coming in hot prior to launch and Starfield was coming in even hotter. Redfall was an unmitigated disaster when it launched even after several delays, and up until end of last year Starfield was apparently in seven worse shape. Is 10 months enough to fix it? I dunno but I sure hope so.

Redfall was weird, they were positioning it as such a big game for Xbox, but all promotional stuff and early previews made the game seem so uninteresting that I don't know why they were pushing it so hard. I understand that people generally love Arkane games, but Redfall never looked good in my opinion.

that said, Redfall has definitely put a ton of pressure on Starfield to be the real deal. that presentation they did on it seemed really cool, but then little details have trickled out which could hurt the experience, such as capped at 30 fps on Xbox (to me not a huge deal). no mounts (ie: cruisers, bikes, etc...) to travel around the planets, seems like at best you can use the boost pack, which apparently will be woefully inadequate for traversing entire planets. also, while aiming for realism they said only 10% of the planets will have life on them, which makes me wonder how exciting the 900 planets sans-life will be.

I don't mean to sound negative about a game I haven't played, because overall I'm sure it'll be great and could potentially be Game of the Year over TotK if it does enough right!
