Everything Video Games!

I don't console game but a game is a game is a game (mostly...) and third or fourth (or whatever the count is) the recommendation for Stray. One of my fave games of 2022.

I never thought I'd want to play a game with almost no combat, just jumping around as a cat, but goddamnit I love that little kitty's meow.
Have you played Little Kitty Big City? I liked it better than Stray

i STILL dont have a PS5 😭😭😭

i am hoping that will change within the next year, but personally I want to get other things video-game related that are more of a priority for me at least

Went on a scavenger hunt and picked up Elden Ring, Alan Wake 2 and the new 2d Prince of Persia for $100 with taxes. Elden Ring is gonna be the winter game. I've bounced hard of Blood Borne twice, but I'm hopeful that the quality of life upgrade + open world will keep me going with this one. And it was only $20 if not. Also snagged the Batman Trilogy remaster (haven't played), Dishonored 2, Rayman Legends and Soma for like a combined 15$ digitally.

Beat RE7 this month while battling multiple colds and have also been chipping away at Cult of Lamb which I HIGHLY recommend. Though maybe don't grab the Switch version as the later portions of the game have had some performance issues. It's a rouge lite, Stardew Valley hybrid with a fun sense of humor and graphical style.

Before that, I spent the late summer / fall beating FF7 Remake. People were right, the combat system was awesome though the side missions were nonsense and it was definitely a touch more anime in it's sensibilities than I usually have the stomach for. The woman characters were wonderfully written but Barrett was obnoxious and Cloud is basically a weeb version of a fuck boi. I'll eventually get to Part II.

For the year:

Horizon Forbidden West (beat this year, mostly played last year): 8.5
Psychonauts 2: 9.0
Uncharted 4: 7.5
Dying Light: 9.0
Prey: 9.0
Sleeping Dogs: 8.0
FF7 Remake: 8.5
Astro's Playroom (the one that comes on the PS5): 8.0
RE7: 8.5

Thinking about one of Ragnarok of Spider-Man 2 during these sales. I think I've accepted Baldur's Gate is not my jam. Maybe I'll drop the difficult y and go back one of these days but meh.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 came out last week. Been playing it a bit. While I'm enjoying it overall, I'd say wait until a few patches are in place. Playing on PC, and there's quite a few performance issues. My PC's far from optimal, but better than the minimum specs (still rocking a 2060, min. is a 1060, recommended is 3060). I will occasionally get instances where the frame rate drops to a slideshow for about a minute. Thought it was just the first town in the game that had a bunch of NPC's, but I've had it happen out in the zone where there's nothing else going on around me. Saw some complaints about the stealth too, I'd say that's fair. Enemies spot you VERY easily and from angles/situations that a normal human wouldn't (far away, pitch black, etc.). Heard some complaints of them seeing you through walls, haven't encountered that myself. That being said, this series has had some jank from the get go, so I was expecting it, and I'm sure things will improve over time.

On the positive side of things, this game is still very much like the others. Brutal even on normal difficulty, the Zone is unforgiving and will kill you quickly. The game is pretty generous with the checkpoints though, so you don't ever lose too much by dying. If you haven't played one of these, it's a survival style game in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone. As a Stalker one of your main objectives is finding artifacts, mysterious pieces that came from the fallout that give powers and abilities. Fallout is a somewhat similar comparison, but this is like the hardcore version. No VATS, no radar for enemies, no grenade warning markers, you have to use your intuition and senses to avoid death. Lots of exploration that may be boring for some due to how sparse things can be, but it always feels like danger is right around the corner, and I really enjoy that. Something about moving from one dilapidated building to another in a nuclear wasteland just really does it for me. Not much in the way of music out in the wastes, but in areas that are populated, the songs I've heard on the radio have been really enjoyable. No idea on the lyrical content, but sounds good to my ears!

Psychonauts 2 (and 1) always feel criminally under appreciated. Love both of those games.

Also with Sleeping Dogs, I still quote the pork bun guy to this day. His advertising never failed to work my entire playthrough.

I picked up the $20 Elden Ring as well. Excited to get going on that one. Also have Spidey 2 coming from Target.

Both are great but i’d have to give Ragnarok the edge. It starts a wee bit slow but really hits a narrative stride mid-way. I got it at launch, then go distracted before coming back a few months later and immediately was enamored.

I get gift cards through work so I might just get Ragnarok with those and hold off on spiderman until it’s cheaper

Anyone playing Pokemon TCG Pocket want a friend who will actually like your showcases each day and earn you shop tickets?
My randos aren't reciprocating.
