Everything Video Games!

I've got the PC port of Last of Us 2 Remastered downloading now. I look forward to playing it. Survival horror type games aren't usually my thing (although I would put the "horror" lightly even though there are infected), but I really enjoyed the first one when it ported. I played it on my old PC with a 2060 and now have a PC with a 4070 ti super so I look forward to upping the settings (I had to use the lowest settings on the first game).

Although between work and school I have little free time so I may have to temper how much of a time suck I allow this to be.

Wait for a few patches, it's launched in a bit of a rough state. I'm sure they'll get it patched but, you may want to slow play it a bit. It's a masterpiece in my opinion.

Interestingly, before purchase, I immediately went to the reviews to see how it is at launch since LoU 1's launch was dismal.

Not an exhaustive survey of reviews, but I saw a few saying that the launch was a proper way to port and explicitly comparing it in a positive way to the poor launch of the first.

But whichever is accurate is no real matter. I probably won't get around to playing it for a few weeks, as I'm balls deep in paper writing. So, even if it is in a rough state, I'll likely DL any updates/patches before I even launch it.

I think Eurogamer did their usual deep dive and said it needed some patches to fix up some framerate stuff and a bunch of graphical issues. But a few weeks should be enough to clean up a bunch of it for sure. It's one of the best games I've ever played and I never want to play it again.

Hahaha you'll see.
I know the entire plot and watched someone do a playthrough years ago (I liked the story for both LoU and LoU2 so I watched playthroughs as I've never had a PS). So I know what goes down.

In fact, I made the comment initially about Survivor Horror not being my thing to play. But I like the stories so I've watched playthroughs of a lot of the big games without every playing them. I get too anxious.

Me and my buddy's wife used to drink and watch him play the Dead Space games. We liked the story but neither of us could stomach the actual playing so for us it was like watching a movie.

Ok well it's one of the best games I've ever played but it's just so oppressive by the time you finish it you just feel like someone beat the hell out of you emotionally. It's incredible but everything about it hurts.

I think that's the elevation of storytelling in video games and how an emotionally impactful game can do more than, say, a movie because there is participation/agency.

I was talking with a co-worker who was formally a QA Tester and Lead at Rockstar game development. He was asking what I thought about the Switch 2.

When I mentioned the game prices being to high his response was funny you should mention that.

He was hanging out with a bunch of his former buddies in the game development industry and asked them about this last night. Their response was a unanimous "it's about time". Games are taking much longer and costing a lot more to make these days and are a lot less profitable. Thus pay sucks for developers and layoffs are more common. They all said something has to give.

Reddit, discord and twitter is blowing up about the Switch 2 delay. Speculation is the delay is so Nintendo can adjust pricing. Latest predictions will have the Switch 2 priced at $650.
That’s just applying 40% increase to the switch 2 price. It would likely be more like 500-550 base. In reality I feel like they would just delay the US launch a few months.
