Day 13 - Strawberry Fields Forever

Not sure I could objectively call this one of best singles ever, but it’s one of my favorite songs for sure. Brings me right back to listening on my Discman and playing Final Fantasy VII.

Also, if you’re under 30, feel free to google 90s + Tommy Hilfiger 😂

Day 9 - Duo

I have already shared my love for Quasi this month. Janet Weiss (Sleater-Kinney, Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, Wild Flag, Slang, et al) and Sam Coomes (Heatmiser, Donner Party, Blues Goblins, et al) are both local legends, and they have kept Quasi going since 1993 (28 years!). Along the way, they got married (actually pre-Quasi), got divorced (1995), played in friend Elliott Smith's band, cranked out 8 albums and another live release, and played beloved local venue Doug Fir Lounge on opening night. Featuring 'Birds' is easily my favorite Quasi release, but I already spun it for Day 4. As such, Field Studies it is!

Day 10 - Latin

This one has a unique sound that I love, described as an Amazonian style of Cumbia. From the Bandcamp page:
One of the style’s greatest practitioners is Raúl Llerena Vásquez – known to the world as Ranil – a Peruvian singer, bandleader, record-label entrepreneur and larger-than-life personality who swirled the teeming buzz of the Amazonian jungle, the unstoppable rhythms of Colombian and Ecuatorian dance music, and the psychedelic electricity of guitar-driven rock-and-roll into a knock-out, party-starting concoction. It’s cumbia alright, but you’ve never heard cumbia quite like this before.

Day 13 - Strawberry Fields Forever

While I would not identify this as my favorite single of all time, it does happen to be one of my favorite tracks by Margo (especially live), and it does not appear on any of her LPs. As such, while not rare it is among the more treasured 7" of my collection.

Sun 14 – Valentine’s Day
Play the most romantic/anti-romantic album you have (delete according to mood).

Trying to catch some middle thing between feeling in love and being heartbroken. Björk said the album expresses her feelings before and after her breakup with American contemporary artist Matthew Barney and the healing process afterwards.

Sun 14 – Valentine’s Day

They weren't really into to romantic songs but, I always took Perfect World as being about unexpectedly falling in love.

"
Whoo-hoo-hoo
Whoo-hoo-hoo-hoo
Well, I know what it is
But I don't know where it is
Where it is
Well, I know where it is
But I don't know what it looks like
What it looks like
Well, I know what it looks like
But I don't know where she comes from
Well, I know where she comes from
But I don't know what's her name
And she said
This is a perfect world
Riding on an incline
I'm staring in your face
You'll photograph mine
Mm-mm-mm
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
And I've been walking, talking
Believing the things that are true
And I've been finding
The difference between right and wrong, bad and good
See me put things together
Put them back where they belong
When I look at each other
Have I always been singing the same song?
She said
This is a perfect world
Riding on an incline
I'm staring in your face
You'll photograph mine
I-I-I-I-I
Whoo, ah-ha-ha
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Somebody said that it happens all over the world
I do believe that it's true
And the sun's coming up
And we're doing all the things that we should, ah
Doesn't everybody here believe in the things that we do, ah?
And she said
This is a perfect world
Riding on an incline
I'm staring in your face
You'll photograph mine
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey
Ooh-ee
Mm, ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
Hey, strange situation
Ooh, what's wrong with you?
Ha. baby, baby, baby
What you doing in my house?
Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha
And I said it's all true
Hey, hey, hey
There's nothing wrong with you
And I said
This is a perfect world
Riding on an incline
I'm staring in your face
You'll photograph mine"
