February 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Games People Play

Day Seven - Scattergories - Play an artist or album that starts with the letter I roll on the big die. Edit: The letter is M

Scattergories is probably my very favorite game. Not only is it a word game, and very social, but there is also the competitive, deeper thinking element of trying to choose answers nobody else will. AND while on the clock. AND the timer is really loud and annoying and distracting. Then of course comes the best part of the game; each player reads what they wrote aloud to check it against others' answers. Your debate skills come into play as you defend something inane like "yes, rubber is a food item."
If you haven't played Scattergories, I highly recommend it.

Honorable Mention: Balderdash is fantastic and fun word game, with a similar structure.

So in our Scattergories rules, MM would be two points if nobody else used it.
So then the logical choice would have been Moon and Antarctica for a third point, but I don't have a vinyl copy of it.

I'm so envious of your Double Nickels! I'm going to a record show in two weeks, I really hope to find a copy.
I was going to play Ballot Result for today but went Modest Mouse instead.

Miles Mosley - Uprising

View attachment 128025

The West Coast Get Down collective really blew up after To Pimp A Butterfly. Kamasi Washington was suddenly everywhere, Terrace Martin had more eyes on him than ever before, and even Thundercat's career soared to new heights. Somehow in all that, co-founder of the collective, Miles Mosley had his album go virtually unnoticed. Its kind of a shame, really. Uprising is funky and energetic, with great musicians sounding like they're having a blast playing it.

And for my scattergories answers...

Mochi

Not completely unnoticed. This Verve edition is a second printing. He was signed to Verve after the World Galaxy pressing did so well.

Day 6 - Mastermind
Play a record by an artist that strikes you as being very intelligent

IDLES - Joy as an Act of Resistance

Mark Bowen (guitarist of IDLES) is a dentist, Lee Kiernan (rhythm guitarist) is/was a technician at a music college, and Joe Talbot (frontman) worked with vulnerable people in social care.

Day Eight - Crazy Eights - Play a record by an artist you are crazy about. .
Sorry I'm going to bring up the F word once again on a long posting
obsessed is not a healthy word so crazy is more acceptable, been a fan for over a decade now I must have seen him around 40 times (stopped counting) in 4 different countries the USA being the furthest made a ton of friends off the back of going to go many gigs and part of the FTHC community,
20210514_213712.jpg
hell he even has his own section in the kallax (got a few more in there now as that's an old photo and had to move the books out)

and plenty of wall space20200803_140101.jpg20200803_140144.jpg

I PROMISE NOT TO MENTION HIM AGAIN THIS MONTH*
*He has a new album out on Friday but I'll try

Day Five - Five Card Draw - Play something with a drawing on the cover or play something related to poker

Cloakroom - Dissolution Wave

I have no clue what it's a drawing of, but it's a drawing, I think. 🤷

I wasn't familiar with this band, found the artwork intriguing and streamed it.
Wow, I loved it!
It's on my to-buy list now.
Awesome pick, thank you!

Day Eight - Crazy Eights - Play a record by an artist you are crazy about.

I drove 8 hours to see Tash Sultana in concert. It was an outdoor venue, got there early in the rain and to the front row. Already had Tash's record, but paid extra for another one that was signed. This is the only album that I purposefully have duplicates. I suppose that qualifies as crazy.

Tash Sultana - Flow State

I just bought a pair of tickets to see Tash with my wife in July - they play four days after her birthday at the nicest venue we have around here (where I saw Janelle Monáe for the first time ten years ago!)
