February 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Games People Play

Day One - Uno
Babe Ruth – First Base

A debut that with lots of bonus Challenge tie-ins to make up for the fact that we amazingly don't have an UNO deck at home.

  • Baseball is a game, and there is plenty of baseball imagery to be found here.
  • There is also a song called "Joker", which of course is a playing card - though not one found in UNO.
  • And, finally, there is an absolute burner of a song called "The Mexican," in Mexico they speak Spanish, and UNO is Spanish (and Italian) for ONE!

Also, I just really wanted to listen to this right now.
 
Day Two - Risk - Play something you bought without listening to first/went in blind.

There are a few artists that I'm gonna snag any new release by them. No preview necessary. Neil Young is one of those artists.

The 80's were interesting. You had these three released within a 4 year span, each one about as different from the other two as possible. You never knew what to expect and that was thrilling.

Firstly apologies for not completing last months, i fully intend to go back and finish it as soon as poss, I have been off line for a number of days for personal reasons and only just turned the PC on, anyway to this this months postings

Odd. All I can think of is it's a permissions thing and either the browser or PWA (Progressive Web App) that's available for android users of the forum, doesn't have permissions to access the photo library.

Also, just to double check, the editor is not in BB Code mode right? It disables all the buttons if it is.

Damon Albarn "The Nearer The Fountain, The More Pure The Stream Flows" (2021 Transgressive Records, deluxe edition)
I rarely buy records completely sight unseen anymore. I usually at least scan through the tracks in streaming first. But pre-orders often end-up being somewhat blind buys. I took a calculated risk buying the deluxe version of the latest Damon Albarn on the strength of the first single only. Figured that since I ended up buying deluxe versions of the last two Gorillaz after first owning standard versions, I might as well go for it right away this time. Glad I did. This ended up being a great record.

Also, looks like I still had my old beat-up late-70's copy of RISK in storage.

What a cool idea for the challenge! I love seeing people's collections too. I used to be really be into board games/tabletop games. For years I used to play a Star Wars miniatures game called X-wing and even competed in several tournaments. But then I started collecting records and that quickly became my dominant hobby.

We just moved this past weekend and I'm pretty busy unpacking, so I don't know yet if I am going to have time to play along unfortunately.
 
Day 2: Risk

I go into the Colemine stuff blindly for the most part, and that’s really it. Here’s one of the ones I picked up most recently…

The Sure Fire Soul Ensemble - “Step Down”

I knew the a-side from the 3rd “Soul Slabs” compilation but I didn’t know the b-side beforehand; it’s pretty good. Not much of a risk compared to a full-length $20+ LP, but still a risk.

I mentioned this on a previous challenge, but I'm a sucker for Godzilla stuff, so I've been picking up the recent Mondo Soundtrack releases without really knowing the music all that much. This one just came in a few weeks ago.

Lots of good memories around Risk as well. One of those games that we still play with my brother when we get together, and invariably leads to him complaining that everyone is ganging up on him. Which usually ends up being true because he complains so much about it, so it's fun to egg him on. Would have preferred to have my "King of Tokyo" game featured here, but I think my oldest daughter took it when she moved out. So Risk it is!

Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah ~ Soundtrack (Micro Oxygen Beam Variant) (Godzilla lost his foot in some battle very limited variant edition on him)

My 10 yr old approves of the blatant use of Godzilla in this post.
