February 2022 Vinyl Spin Challenge Thread - Games People Play

Day Three - The Game of Life - Play a record that deals with or has a song that deals with mortality

Songs: Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co

There aren't many Molina songs that don't deal with mortality.

Day Four - Connect Four - Think of an artist that had a great four record run. Play any (or all!) of the four

Elliott Smith - Either/Or

Fantastic run from s/t, Either/Or, XO and ending with my fave in Figure 8. Still need to pick up the self titled are some point, and wish this Either/Or was a quieter pressing.

You alright buddy?

You alright buddy?
😂 Well, all being said I'm tired of being sick basically since I got back from Mexico the week before this. My nose is tired of being blown! But this was mostly some late night fare last night to chill out, and I fell asleep to Elliott and slept like a baby. Nyquil may have helped, who knows?

I'll try and come with some energy this afternoon for today's play. Already got the Elliott Brood going, and maybe some Exploding Hearts next.

Day 04: Connect Four
Think of an artist that had a great four record run. Play any (or all!) of the four

I decided to play all four…

Neil Young’s Ditch Trilogy +1

" 'Heart of Gold' put me in the middle of the road.Traveling there soon became a bore so I headed for the ditch."

Neil Young & Crazy Horse - Zuma

There were a few different routes I could went with but Neil was my first inclination so I stuck with that. The Ditch Trilogy is Neil Young laying it all out there while dealing with a bunch of shit. Zuma was Neil coming out on the other side bit more beaten and battered but ultimately no worse for wear.

Day Five - Five Card Draw - Play something with a drawing on the cover or play something related to poker

Tyler, The Creator - Igor

Had lots of ideas about records with drawn artwork. Eventually started getting lost in the weeds about drawings vs paintings before reeling it back in with this great record with great artwork.

Tool – Undertow
Zoo Entertainment/BMG Music – 72445-11052-1-RE, 1993/1997

Repress of a 1996 release that had the inner sleeves, this one just had generic white paper sleeves.

I am going to see them tonight. They’re the hubs favorite band.

Day 5 : Draw five

When they released the Studio Ghibli soundtracks, I was so happy. I didn’t get many of the image albums but I did grab the image albums for Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, and this one.

Princess Mononoke Image Album - Joe Hisaishi

I am intrigued by this post. I think I'll fire up the ol' Spotify to give them a listen...

Day Six - Mastermind - Play a record by an artist that strikes you as being very intelligent

We were at a friends house last night listening to this album, had a great conversation about Joni's lyrics, delivery, and guitar playing. Definitely a thoughtful and intelligent woman. And a lovely album for a Sunday morning.

Joni Mitchell ~ Blue
