Fresh Grabs

Finally! My Black Friday order and December ROTMs were delivered today!

My uDiscover Black Friday order also shipped this week with A Love Supreme and The Slim Shady LP. I got a surprise shipping notice for the new King Buffalo EP, and VMP already shipped both my Townes Van Zandts that I ordered two days ago. I've got a lot of listening to do!

A couple of wantlist groobs.

Two more pieces to almost complete my You, Me and Everyone We Know discography. And from a generous benefactor, The SO and I can enjoy some Great sounding Chance.

Also, the live Format LPs came in and that discography is also almost complete. Can’t wait to spin these.

More to come soon.

I may be jumping into some expensive holes here between MMJ srx and original Weens 😬View attachment 30820
Duuuuuuuuuuuude, that’s my white whale right there.
Original The Mollusk pressing.

I’m at the point where I’d pay $110 for one, but I’ve never seen one below $150.

Some day, she will be mine,
oh yes!
she will be mine.

Those SRX presses are too good, I might buy at least 6 more.
Not too excited about that.
But, excited about that.
Definitely an expensive hole.
Holy hell

It's been on my wantlist for forever too. The seller accepted a $90 offer I put up which is still a lot, so definitely throw offers out if any more pop up!

Muriel Grossmann - Momentum (CD)

Bought this one a while ago as I wanted more Muriel. But it got lost in the post somehow. I wrote to the Bandcamp address, got a reply from her, and now this with a free CD of her latest Reverence thrown in and a small note. Such a nice person.

I could blame @Selaws for plunging me down this rabbit hole but I was quite ready to go down it myself...

Star Band de Dakar x 3

A late delivery but something I'm so excited about. No exaggeration to say this could easily be my favourite haul by the end of the year. Star Band de Dakar are one of the all-time great west African groups, certainly in Senegal with Youssou N'Dour and others getting their start with their Cuban-influenced rhythms - and were the subject of a great compilation by Ostinato last year. Finding original records by them is pretty difficult and is basically impossible at a decent price. Step in Superfly in Paris, which sold me all three of these for about half the Discogs price of one of them. Can't wait to spin these - got the red one on the turntable and it's in pretty immaculate condition. Such intoxicating music.

i can confirm II sounds great to my ears IV sounds awful no depth to the sound no dynamic sound stage sounds like your playing it on a crosley suit case player no matter how Hi end of a system you play it on.
Interesting, that's the only reissue/remaster I'm missing and I'm surprised that reports are that its lacking in sound quality, the others are all great and IV is mixed by JP and pressed at Pallas just like the others............did JP have an off day?

I’ve been hesitant because of sound issues I’ve heard...how are they?
Better than I thought they’d be based on a lot of the reviews. The one that received the most derision is House Of The Holy, as there had been an skip pressed into it but as I researched more I discovered they ended up repressing it so the runout etching is important thankfully I got one of the good copies (you never know with Amazon) but if you get the right one you won’t have any issue. I mean they are not Bob Ludwig cut or anything but they are good enough especially for under $10. I think they printed a lot of em and they developed a bad rep (probably worse than they deserve) which in turn has allowed them too be had a a really affordable price tag.

I've sold off all my LZ reissues, I had IV but I don't think it's very well recorded , it didn't sound that good on the remasters, II , ITTOD were probably the best sound wise that I heard.
