I may not be posting on this thread for a month

Had a really decent haul this week, with some big exciting records getting to me tomorrow as well (hopefully).

Bill Evans - Evans In England (Resonance Records, 2019 Limited RSD Mono Pressing)
Wes Montgomery - Wes’s Best: The Best Of Wes Montgomery On Resonance (Resonance Records, 2019 Pressing)
Bill Evans - Smile With Your Heart (Resonance Records, 2019 Pressing)

First up is one I have been after for a long while, Bill Evans - Evans In England. I stupidly decided against this on RSD a few years back and have been hunting down a copy ever since. They now regularly sell for around £100 on ebay, but luckily I just happen to go on Resonance's website just as a few copies had been found and listed for the standard price. Interestingly, my copy shows 'JMJ' in the numbered section. I know records that have this sometimes were usually the initials or names of the journalists that they were sent to for review, as a special copy (hint for what I should be getting tomorrow). Maybe its the case here?

The National - High Violet (10th Anniversary Expanded Edition) (4AD, 2020 Cherry Tree Exclusive Limited to 750 Copies)
Jorge Ben - África Brasil (Universal, 2019 VMP Essentials Pressing)
Loretta Lynn - Fist City (Decca, 2019 VMP Exclusive on Red Vinyl)

My Cherry Tree exclusive turned up yesterday and looks great! Havent had chance to listen yet, but I will give it a good spin soon! Plus a couple of extras from the VMP sale.

The Dave Brubeck Quartet - At Carnegie Hall (Part 2) (CBS, 1963 First UK Pressing)
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Brandenburg Gate: Revisited (CBS, 1963 First UK Pressing)
Walter Davis Jr. - Scorpio Rising (Steeplechase, 1989 First Pressing)
Kenny Clarke - Bohemia After Dark (Savoy/London Records, 1957 First UK Mono Pressing)
Down Beat December 30, 1965 30th Annual Down Beat Readers Poll Results
Thelonious Monk Trio - Thelonious (Esquire, 1960 First UK EP Pressing)

The 2 Brubecks were from the first carboot of the year. Fantastic social distancing at play here, with a 1-way system, limited people, 1 person at a table at a time (to browse), and hand sanitation stations. Very impressed and I walked away with the 2 Brubecks for £1 total! Walter Davis Jr has a superb Blue Note release but I had never heard his live recording for Steeplechase before stumbling across this copy. The real gem here is the Kenny Clarke - Bohemia After Dark. I was going to buy a very beat up Savoy pressing until I saw this at a fraction of the price and in superb condition. I prefer this alternative artwork as well. The line-up is insane with Julian "Cannonball" Adderley, Paul Chambers, Nat Adderley, Kenny Clarke, Hank Jones, Horace Silver, Jerome Richardson and Donald Byrd......phew. The Down Beat is in crazy good shape for its age, includes all the card inserts, and total domination by Coltrane! Finally, a cool little EP from Monk on the Esquire label. Crazily, Esquire pressings tend to go for more money than their US counterpart, so it's rare that I get them. In this case though it was just a few quid so I couldn't really pass it up.

Neil Young - Homegrown
Van Morrison - Astral Weeks

Shakey's latest sounding mighty good, plus decided to get the latest Kevin Gray remaster as I've got a mid 80s German pressing and loved his Moondance. For free at my ace local against some secondhand stuff I no longer wanted.

That remaster of Astral Weeks is exceptional too, it’s the copy I’ve had for 4 or 5 years now and I’ve zero complaints!

I went to the carboot again today. Typically weekends tend to have a better selection, and boy did this one deliver. This consists of 3 separate purchases with a grand total of £16 spent. I had a decent collection (the 10" record and a couple of Louis Armstrong albums) when I approached the last stall. Everything was being packed away (looked like it was going to rain) and the last thing he had was a stack of records which he gestured me to look at. After looking through and saying he wanted £2 each for them he then looked at the stack I had and said I could have them for £10. Not bad at all.

Various - A Visit To Jazzland No. 2 (Philips, First Mono 10" Pressing) - Chet Baker, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, etc.
Mel Tormé And The Marty Paich "Dek-tette" (Bethlehem/London Records, 1956 First Mono Pressing) - Classic Burt Goldblatt artwork
Erroll Garner - Erroll Garner Plays For Dancing (Philips, 1954 First 10" Mono Pressing)
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Dave Digs Disney (Fontana, 1958 First UK Mono Pressing)
Been after this for a while so happy to find it in the wild!
Fats Waller - "Fats" On The Air Vol.2 (RCA, Mono Compilation)
Louis Armstrong And His Hot Five - Period - 1926 (Columbia, 1951 First UK Pressing)
Art Tatum - Art Tatum (Capitol Records, 1950 First UK Pressing)
Al Cohn & Zoot Sims - Motoring Along (Sonet, 1975 First Pressing)
Stan Getz - Voices (Verve, 1967 First UK Pressing)
- With Herbie Hancock on piano!!
Oscar Peterson - Action (MPS, 1968 First Pressing)
Oscar Peterson - Sings Nat King Cole (Contour, Reissue)
Oscar Peterson Trio - Tristeza On Piano (MPS, 1970 First Pressing)
Oscar Peterson - My Favorite Instrument (MPS, 1968 First Pressing)
Oscar Peterson - Great Connection (MPS, 1974 First Pressing)
- An interesting release which sees him play with a set of Danish side-men.
The Oscar Peterson Trio - Affinity (Affinity, 1962 First Mono Pressing)
The Oscar Peterson Trio - A Jazz Portrait Of Frank Sinatra (Verve, 1962 First UK Mono Pressing)
- Superb set of Sinatra covers. Spinning now and its fantastic.
Paul Desmond - Easy Living (RCA, 1977 Pressing) - with Percy Heath, Connie Kay, Gene Wright, Jim Hall, etc.
Erroll Garner - The Most Happy Piano (Phillips, 1958 First Mono Pressing)
Mel Tormé with The Meltones - Back In Town (Verve, 1960 First Pressing)
- Art Pepper on sax caught my attention here!!
Count Basie - The Atomic Mr. Basie (Columbia, 1958 First UK Mono Pressing) - This was front runner for a Classics release a while back, so glad to have a copy on vinyl now.
André Previn / Herb Ellis / Shelly Manne / Ray Brown - 4 To Go! (CBS, 1963 First Pressing)
The Paul Desmond Quartet - Live (A&M Records, 1976 First French Pressing)
- I have seen this on Instagram a few times with lots of good recommendations so looking forward to hearing it for the first time.

Louis Armstrong - Never Forgotten (RCA, 1964 Compilation)

A beautiful thing! Have long wished for "a carboot" in my neck of the woods! ;)

A beautiful thing! Have long wished for "a carboot" in my neck of the woods! ;)

Me and my girlfriend love a good carboot sale. We usually go pretty regularly when they are open (Covid has meant a very late start this year) and in the past I have had some decent record hauls from them. We were a bit nervous about going really as there tends to be lots of people huddling around the stalls etc but this one is really well organised and controls the crowds really well.

The records were certainly a decent haul though and it could have been much much worse........I could have left with a boars head! :ROFLMAO:
