So, here's a fun little story:
I ordered Idles "Ultra Mono" black yolk in clear with bonus mix CD, gatefold cover, Rough Trade exclusive forever ago whenever the many variants all went on sale. So, two days ago, I get it in the mail, except it is clear vinyl in a f***cking PVC sleeve.
So I contact Rough Trade and say, "hey, I didn't get the variant I ordered or the mix CD." They respond that they can send the CD. I say, "thanks, but I wanted your exclusive variant." They say, we are out of that now, but we can offer you a 25% refund. I am cranky.
This morning, I go on Discogs to see if the clear version is worth keeping, and realize that it is the actual mono mix pressing. This is somewhat intriguing, and reason enough for me to keep it in the collection. So I write back to Rough Trade, again, and say "please send the partial refund and the bonus disc if it is still available, thanks."
Because I wanted the stereo mix, and the RT variant, and because I have mental health issues when it comes to records, I go on Discogs and order the RT variant M sealed from a flipper for twice it's original value.
Only then do I wonder what the hand-written number on my mono pressing is (#525, if anyone is still reading) and go to where I put the album in case I decided to return it, sitting on top of the packaging. The package that was sent to me by... Partisan Records.
So of course then I finally, three days into this "situation," go back through my emails and remember (kinda) that I ordered the exclusive through Rough Trade and the mono through Partisan and that I am obviously an idiot who buys too many records.
I just wrote an apology email to Rough Trade asking them to please disregard the three days of back-and-forth emails. And then sent a message to the flipper on Discogs hoping to get him to cancel the order before it ships. I'd already paid, of course.
Checked the tracking on the Rough Trade exclusive and it should be delivered today.
The mono mix sounds really good, though, so I guess it was all worth it.
The End.
