Fresh Grabs

September Aquisitions

Current year pickups:

100 Gecs - 1000 Gecs and the Tree of Clues
Angel Olsen - Whole New Mess
Charli XCX - how i'm feeling now
Jessy Lanza - All the Time

Got the 100 Gecs remix LP on sale. Not the greatest pressing, as to be expected.
Kind of regretting the Angel Olsen purchase...didn't like the renditions from All Mirrors when I listened digitally, but was compelled to get it simply for my appreciation for her musical catalog. Might give this one away to my friend.
Still enjoying the Charli quarantine project. Bare bones package, except for the neat fanart inside the gatefold.
I was initally bummed to miss out on the limited pressings available for Jessy Lanza's newest. I wanted to get around to listening the album enough to make a decision, but decided to buy it in the end from a local. Luckily enough, one of the ltd/1000 teal pressings ended up being what I purchased without any hype sticker indication!

Current year pickups (cont.):

Kelly Lee Owens - Inner Song
Necrot - Mortal
Run the Jewels - RTJ4

Thank you everyone for highlighting KLO. She is fantastic. One of my favorites of the year. Same for Necrot; death metal that sticks to its roots without any excess bells and whistles.
We all know how solid this RTJ release is (after all, I'm seeing it in many peoples' tentative top 10).

Miscellaneous pickups:

Alvvays - Alvvays
American Football - American Football (LP1)
Jessie Ware - Devotion
Kim Petras - Clarity [Urban Outfitters exclusive]

20200930_231243.jpg

Alvvays and American Football courtesy from the recent B2G1 sale held by Polyvinyl Records.
Found the Jessie Ware in the used bin for $12 and took a chance on it, seeing that it is out of print. Not bad, but certainly not as vibrant as her excellent release from this year. Perhaps a bit boring. I'll give it a few more tries.
Snagged the Kim Petras record on discount literally a week before UO took down the listing. Jacket and variant looks great! Sound quality is also rather impressive, considering the outlet.

Miscellaneous pickups (cont.):

PJ Harvey - To Bring You my Love
Tortoise - Millions of People Will Never Die
Weezer - Weezer (The Blue Album) [Mobile Fidelity reissue]
Xiu Xiu - Forget

20200930_231409.jpg

This PJ Harvey reissue sounds stellar and I can't wait to get some of the others that I enjoy!
Thank you again N&G for highlighting Tortoise as an AotM and also a repress of Millions Now... which might be favorite of their albums. Great to have both it and TNT to start venturing more into post-rock.
Not too impressed with the MoFi Weezer, sadly.
Xiu Xiu arrived warped but a replacement will be sent by Polyvinyl. Excellent customer service to respond within 24 hours!

Stereolab ❤️

Stereolab - Transient Random-Noise Bursts With Announcements
Stereolab - Mars Audiac Quintet
Stereolab - Emperor Tomato Ketchup
Stereolab - Dots and Loops

All I can say is that I am loving this band more and more with every play of (most of) their records. I will probably be adding more in due time. They are available for $24 each at one of my favorite locals, which is an absolute steal for the value proposition (3xLP, polylined inners, DL card, 24" x 24" poster, gatefold, and PVC outer).

It was really nice here yesterday afternoon! It’s middling now. The app says there’s a 100% chance of rain all day tomorrow so that’s sounding more like normal...

It was sunny this morning here but clouds are showing up now. Things are pretty bad in the south of France due to the rain. 12 people are lost, roads and bridges are destroyed :(

Newly Acquired Distractions

Broadcast - The Noise Made By People
Broadcast - Tender Buttons
Blonde Redhead - Misery Is A Butterfly
Love - Forever Changes

All pick ups from my local record store I have been really into Blonde Redhead lately so I wanted to grab more of that. While there I noticed the Broadcast LPs and was happy to grab those also. The Love LP is the Mono Rocktober Rhino reissue. I have read that supposedly there is no true mono mix of this album and this has likely been “downfolded” digitally from a stereo mix. I have no clue but it was $20 bucks and I have had good luck with the Rickover releases in the past so I figured I would give it a shot.

@Rip_City you May already be familiar with em but I have noticed you have been on a bit of a Stereolab kick recently (a great kick to be on for sure) you should give Blonde Redhead and especially Broadcast a go. I think they scratch a similar itch.

Forever changes one of my favourite albums ever ❤

Orchestra Baobab - Specialist In All Styles

So excited for this - this may be the 16th Orchestre Baobab album I get my hands on but it's the first one I ever heard as new and since getting all their 70s stuff I haven't heard it in the longest time so I'm v excited to rediscover it. Hope they release Made In Dakar too to complete the collection. One of my very favourite bands - they're amazing live too with a real vitality I find often lacking in such older groups; if they make it back on the road after all this madness, check them out.
