Some fresh grab for me finally, as I got my mail after about 3 weeks. Nothing much this time as I have been laying low on buying these days but a couple of PIFsgiving PIFs finally arrived! Courtesy of @Yer Ol' Uncle D and @Mather plus one of the only time I've been TOPS on shipping. Oh and also the Burial/FourTet/Yorke collab, thanks to @tonythegamer for hooking me up 🤘🔥View attachment 83675
Glad the collab made it finally. Enjoy!

Some preorders, backordered items, stuff that’s been in USPS purgatory, and some stuff I ordered between Christmas & New Year’s arrived:

The Amine & Conway preorders came in. That Amine’s become one of my favorite albums from last year, got it cheap in a Target sale preorder. The Tribe was listed as used on Deep Discount, but came in brand new sealed. I’ve been revisiting Bun-B’s solo work a lot recently and really overlooked this Trillstatik album from a couple years ago. And I always grab Chicago rap when I see it, and the Crucial Conflict was sealed to boot.

Bunch of gospel soul/funk records. The Gospel Truth is a nice comp of that label that was also part of the Target preorder sale haul. Starts off leaning a little too far towards traditional gospel at first, but it picks up with the more funkier & soulful stylings I prefer. The rest are eBay & discogs pickups that have mostly been in USPS’s system for weeks.

The Charles Bradley is the last of his LPs that I didn’t have. I ordered the Soul score & soundtrack right after watching the movie. The soundtrack is backordered still though. After resisting forever, I’ve finally given in to liking Dua Lipa after hearing Levitating for the hundredth time. The self-titled was another from Deep Discount listed as used buy came in new & sealed. And finally picked up the Phoebe for cheap.

This is the first time in a long time that my Deliveries app is so empty. All I’ve got coming right now is one package with a couple of DOOM records from Getondown. Still have over a dozen preorders from last year coming over the next couple months mostly. But otherwise I’ll be in withdrawal for a while 😂

[Sigh] way too many...
Year End/New Year Fresh Grabs

Loose Fur - Loose Fur
Beachwood Sparks - Beachwood Sparks
Garcia Peoples - Nightcap At Wits’ End
Yo La Tengo - Fade
Wilkes - Wilkes
The Deathray Davies - The Kick & The Snare

A few of these were gifts some where preorders. the Beachwood Sparks is the recent reissue and it is a beaut. The Deathray Davies was an album I loved but hadn’t thought of much until coming acrossed this copy at my local record store. It was a pretty small run (200 total) so I was stoked to add it to my collection.

The Men - Mercy
Thurston Moore - By The Fire
Tengger - Nomad
Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing In The Hands / Niño Rojo
Devendra Banhart - Cripple Crow
Devendra Banhart -
Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
Codeine - Realize [single]
Prince - Sign "O" The Times [single]

Same as with the last batch some gifts some mail orders some local record store grabs. I listened to a lotta Devendra Banhart this past year but didn’t have any on wax so I took care of that. The Codeine Single is from the initial Sub Pop Singles Club, my local had a few in their 45’s so that was kinda a cool and the Prince 45 was one that came with a recent copy of German Rolling Stone Magazine.

Guided By Voices - Under The Bushes Under The Stars
Meat Puppets - Monsters
Teenage Fanclub - Bandwagonesque
Dr. Octagon - Dr. Octagonecologyst

These were all recent online orders from recent Deep Discount and UDiscover Music sales. Really just filling some holes in my collection.

Happy birthday buddy, hope you have a great day!

I haven't posted on here for a few weeks but have had some really fantastic pick-ups lately, including a mega rare record!

Johnny Dankworth, His Orchestra And Guests - What The Dickens! (Fontana, 1963 First Pressing)
Friedrich Gulda His Piano And Big Band - From Vienna With Jazz (Columbia, 1964 First Mono Promo Pressing)
Donald Byrd - Byrd Jazz (Transition/Norma, 1990 Japanese Pressing)
The Ray Russell Quartet - Spontaneous Event - Live Vol. 1: 1967-69 (Jazz In Britain, 2020 Limited Pressing)

I picked up the Johnny Dankworth and Friedrich Gulda after reading that Tubby Hayes and a load of other British jazz musicians formed their big bands. They are both fantastic sessions, even if I tend to stay away from big band recordings, and each has an added bonus. The Gulda is a promo white label 'for radio use' and the Dankworth has a piece of paper signed by Dankworth on one side and by singer Cleo Laine on the other. After regretting not picking up the Sam Records Byrd Jazz a while ago (and refusing to pay the mega money it's going for now) I decided to try my luck with this Japanese pressing. Finally, a second copy of the Ray Russell arrived from Japan today, I ended up buying a signed copy for less money a few days after this order was placed so this copy is going straight up for sale to cover my costs.

Gateway To Jazz Kissa - English Version
I saw the Japanese version of this magazine all over Instagram a few weeks ago and when they announced an English version I picked up a copy. Its a great collection of photographs, interviews, and essays that look at the Jazz Kissa's, cafes and bars which focus on playing jazz albums. There are over 600 in Japan and 90% use vinyl as their preferred medium.

Tubby Hayes And The All Stars - Return Visit! (Fontana, 1963 First Mono Pressing)
Miles Davis All Stars - Miles Davis Blows (Esquire, 1956 First UK Mono 10" Pressing)

I ordered the Tubby Hayes almost 2 months ago now and it finally arrived yesterday. Unfortunately, the packaging was soaked through and although this was in an outersleeve, the edge/opening got wet and has stained/warped the jacket. A real bummer as I got this at an amazing price and its a pretty tricky one to find in such good condition. The Miles Davis is a series of 3 10" releases (released on Prestige the same year) and are fantastic sessions. This copy is the first volume of the 3.

The Don Rendell / Ian Carr Quintet - Phase III (Columbia, 1968 First Mono Sample Pressing)
Finally the pièce de résistance! This album is a mega rare example of British jazz at its finest, with saxophonist Don Rendell and trumpeter Ian Carr heading the killer group. A similar copy recently sold online for an eyewatering amount so I'm super happy to have got a copy. I have played it every day since I picked it up and it still blows me away! This copy has the sample/promo stickers on each side which is a cool added bonus.

Prince - 1999

My Secret Santa led me down a slippery slope, whoever they were. First Sign o The Times from them, and now me getting 1999 (on purple vinyl). Spinning it now and it sounds wonderful and v funky. Takes my back to my 40th birthday when a Prince tribute band performed in the bar I was at (and was amazingly good). Ah, those halcyon days of listening to live music, dancing and drinking with mates...

And happy birthday @Bluecloud777 - somebody has good taste in presents!

Not to send you further down the rabbit hole......but my guy Kevin Gray did some Prince reissues. I think he did self-titled and Dirty Mind, maybe some others. They can still be purchased for pretty cheap in the US so might be worth looking into!

Got this in yesterday! Been on my wantlist for awhile but I missed when it was initially reissued. Noticed that a few copies here and there have been restocked on Amazon in the last month or two so I took a shot and it shipped out pretty quickly!

You can probably guess who cut/mastered it based on my recent purchases....gotta love that KG@CA in the deadwax.

I think he did Purple Rain and self-titled; he also did the 4ever compilation which I picked up for $20 shipped (4 LPs) in perhaps my best acci-deal (I'm always envious of your Beatles/Dylan/whoever boxset deals in the US - in particular, I regret not being able to get the Esher Demos/White Album and Dylan Mono boxsets for like 1/4 of Norwegian prices).

Ah yea--you're right. Bernie did the remaster of Dirty Mind at RTI: Prince - Dirty Mind
