So I grabbed a ton of really cool items over the weekend at a local market festival where they had a slew of $1 records and then a small "collector's corner" of records from $3 to $20. I could have bought so much more but had to put a stop somewhere. Most of the effort was spent digging through bins to fill in the gaps on artists I've been piecing together (did a number on Bruce, Steely Dan, and Bonnie Raitt) and grabbing good flier records that seem like they could be fun to try out. It also stung to leave some really reasonably priced Police, U2, Billy Joel, etc. but there was just too many already. The scary part is I only got there at the end of Day 2, so I can't imagine what the early run held. Next year I'll need to make sure I go early. These six were probably the "best" grabs in terms of cost/rarity or just cool factor.
The Star Wars OST for $1 was my first "wow" find and led me to digging through the boxes a lot more than I intended to. This one is in really good shape: some ringwear on the sleeve but the condition overall is really good. Nothing else I found in the $1 really matched up to this one, though there were a lot of really good $5-$10 albums in there that saved me a lot of future hustling and bin diving for less savory versions.
There was a lot of Pink Floyd in the Collector's Side, and I have...none. It's been fun following all of the Pink Floyd discussion over preferred pressings here but I always just had trouble really going for a toe-dip when DSOTM or The Wall were always $25+ for copies even used. There were really nice copies of Animals (which was snagged before I made a call), The Final Cut, Works, and a couple others. I ended up grabbing a near minty fresh copy of Ummagumma and this one, which I think was marked down to $5 due to the condition of the sleeve. Very excited to finally have the "hold out" be worth it for DSOTM (1973, unsure on the pressing tbh)
This was the priciest item I think they had (well, they had a few different $20, all well worth it honestly) and the priciest I grabbed there that day. My current copy of Pet Sounds was an Amazon Warehouse grab and didn't inspire much. I had been eyeing the AP options for a bit, but then I saw this one and I couldn't leave it behind. As far as I can tell it's the original pressing (1966, Mono Scranton) and, like, it's just something I've wanted for a long time and never came across. I can probably sell my other copy and make back nearly what I paid for this one. Just enthralled to have it.
This was probably the biggest "steal" if you will. The sleeve has seen better days and I'm not the biggest fan of the guy, but OG Pressing (I think it's the 1966 Santa Maria) of Astral Weeks by Van Morrison for $5 is just absurd, especially given the vinyl itself is still in really solid shape.
The last two aren't exactly as rare but are probably my two coolest pickups. Dr. John is an artist I've always liked but never really saw any of in my locals: New England stores don't exactly pull in a ton of that Bayou goodness, so I had to grab Dr. John's Gumbo. I think this was $10 and I need to clean and spin this yesterday
Louis Armstrong was my first jazz love and to see a 60 year old pressing in this kind of condition kinda blows my mind as a collector. Satchmo Plays King Oliver
