Fresh Grabs

I know most of us here are already well acquainted with how great Plaid Room is and even though this absolutely wasn't their fault and was completely on UPS I wanted to post an update. They looked for me and found a couple alternative boxes but all had some damage, so they offered me a 20% refund on the box I got. I'd obviously rather have a box in good condition which is why I didn't buy one of the damaged ones in the first place, but I also don't want to wait until this gets repressed again, so I really appreciated them trying to make this as right as they could given the situation. Knowing how many places wouldn't have done any of this for me just reinforces why I keep buying from them. Their customer service in these instances is so friendly and understanding and always makes me feel appreciated as a customer. @Plaid Room / Colemine huge shout out to Sarah for helping me on this issue, she was excellent and I have nothing but good things to say about her!
Sarah and Bob are both awesome sauce!. Even though I drive them crazy sometimes! :giggle:

Just getting over Covid and some other recent craziness so my new arrivals piled tf up lately😬

First 3 +7 " all bought on Discogs together.. I've been curious about this Django for awhile as it's the Italy import with a silk screened cover and slipmat.

Then the lone RSD release I bought from this year thus far and highly recommend! Speed, Glue & Shinki – Eve.. While I bought this I randomly noticed Bullmoose had a used copy of the Elliot Smith exclusive for $12 so snatched that right up as well!

I'm usually strongly against getting anything Christmas related before at least November but got these 2 Classics and the Staples Singers above at a great price so why not? My OG copy of Ella is 3rd generation so really looking forward to hearing a nice clean copy for the first time.

I completely missed this Rock and Roll Circus release and remembered liking the bits I heard before but after listening to the Taj Mahal tracks for the first time I was sold! Really well done packaging as well!

Then the two recent 420 variant Violent Soho albums along with my second half speed Marley.

I'm always ready for some new Verne Langdon and got this super clean copy for a great price!

Talked with Foxx Bodies and they hooked it up with a signed copy.. Super fun Punk album and some good peoples!

Sum 41 is purely nostalgic and found a copy for under $20 instead of the ridiculous prices these first were.

Deep breath.....

Neil Ardley / Ian Carr / Don Rendell - Greek Variations & Other Aegean Exercises (Columbia, 1970 First Pressing)

An absolute blinder of a purchase, im giddy with it. Not only is it a real rarity in British jazz BUT this copy comes from the collection of Denis Preston, the producer for Columbia Lansdowne. The sleeve has Preston's handwritten notes where he also highlights the tracks that he has publishing rights for.

L'J IV - An Elizabethan Songbook (CBS, 1969 First Pressing)
Harry Beckett - Still Happy (My Only Desire, 2016 Limited Pressing)
Joshua Redman & Pat Metheny Autographs.

I try not to double up on records when I settle on a copy with no issues BUT this Elizabethan Songbook appeared on Ebay with a Buy It Now price of just £18. This is typically an eyewatering £150 album so I bought it, cleaned it, and it sounds great. I'm going to hang on to it for a future swap! "My Only Desire" is a fantastic label and the Harry Beckett is the only one to have alluded me, but patience paid off and I finally got a copy. Finally, I'm not an autograph hunter but have managed to find a few cheapo ones in the past year or so with this Joshua Redman & Pat Metheny being the latest addition.

The Horace Silver Quintet - Doin' The Thing At The Village Gate (Blue Note, 1961 First Mono Pressing)
Joe Wilder - Wilder 'N' Wilder (Savoy/London Records, 1956 First UK Pressing)
Jack Bruce - Songs For A Tailor (Polydor, 1969 First Pressing)

I have been away for a long weekend and ended up visiting "Out Of Time Records" in Ipswich. I got there 30mins for closing so aimed to be quick but was staggered by the amazing albums they had on their walls that included original Blue Notes, British Jazz, original Blues albums (John Lee Hooker, Lightnin' Hopkins), original Black Sabbath, etc. After some digging I settled on the 3 blinders here, an original Horace Silver Blue Note, first UK pressing Joe Wilder (which has shot up in price lately) and a Jack Bruce album I have been meaning to get. What really set this apart though was the time spent chatting. The guy working there kept the shop open an extra 1.5hours because we were chatting about jazz, rare records, top finds we have each had, etc. Really loved it and the fact that he had such a deep knowledge of jazz meant that we were able to chat for ages. Not only were the records cheap (under their going rate) but he also gave me a bit of a discount (without me even asking). They only sell in-store which means there are tons of treasure which wont ever get online!

A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory (Jive, 2022 VMP Essentials Pressing)
Phineas Newborn Jr. - Here Is Phineas: The Piano Artistry Of Phineas Newborn Jr. (Atlantic, 2022 VMP Classics Pressing)
Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad - Jazz Is Dead 10: Remixes (Jazz Is Dead, 2022 VMP Exclusive Pressing)
Adrian Younge & Ali Shaheed Muhammad - Jazz Is Dead 9: Instrumentals (Jazz Is Dead, 2022 VMP Exclusive Pressing)

Plus, to round it all out a few VMP packages arrived. Really looking forward to these. Although I have already said that I don't like doubling up.....I did it again with the Phineas but looking forward to comparing it with an earlier pressing. I thought that the JID 9&10 finished the series but excited to see that there's 2 more coming soon!

I got a phenomenal press of that Joe Wilder of recordcity.jp. Such a lovely record that doesn’t get much love anywhere I find! Glad to see someone else took a chance on it.

It's a fantastic record, isn't it! There was a period a few months ago when loads of people were posting it on their Instagram and I think that pushed the price up on the resale market. I was lucky to be able to get this for a really affordable price at a physical shop, it was tucked away with in the boxes under the racks.
