Fresh Grabs

Ronnie Ross - Cleopatra's Needle (Fontana, 1968 First Pressing)
Guy Warren - Emergent Drums (Columbia, 1964 First Sample Pressing)
Tony Oxley - Ichnos (RCA, 1971 First Pressing)

British jazz goodness, 2 of which I have been trying to find for ages. The Ronnie Ross and Guy Warren just hardly ever appear for sale (especially the Guy Warren) so to have found both in a week is incredible, im ecstatic! The Guy Warren has an added bonus of being a sample pressing with the label on the disc. There is actually an interesting (to me anyway) story regarding the Guy Warren album and his connection to Thelonious Monk. I will post that over on the jazz thread for anyone interested.

S.O.L.L - Mind Reader (Ill Considered Music, 2022 Limited White Label First Pressing)

A new project from Ill Considered's Leon Brichard. The sample tracks were great so im really looking forward to hearing it in its entirety!

Traded in some records for store credit. Ended up not spending a dime on this haul. Except for the Grant Green. Got that for $25 on Amazon.

Chic - C’est Chic
Jay-Z - The Blueprint
Willie Nelson - Yesterday’s Wine
Willie Nelson - Willie and Family Live

Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers (was starting to regret not picking this up on RSD.)

Grant Green - The Latin Bit (I was honestly kinda lukewarm on this album when I streamed it. But when it popped up on Amazon for $25 I had to snag it. I’m so glad I did. It sounds fantastic and really captures an energy in the recording that the digital version doesn’t have.)

May fresh grabs.
Ronnie Foster - Two Headed Freap (Blue Note Classics reissue)
Art Pepper - Modern Jazz Classics (Craft/Contemporary reissue)

Did a 1 month and done VMP hit for Phineas Newborn and Aretha Franklin. Just need for them to announce the Impulse anthology so I can use my remaining credit.

Grabbed a few cds from RecordCityJP
TFC - Thirteen (Japanese vers. with 4 extra tracks)
The Clash - London Calling (25th Ann. with Vanilla Tapes)
and then grabbed the TFC ep because it was only $3 and didn't add anything to shipping.

PIF Claims and Current Year pickups

Hatchie - Giving the World Away (signed)
Jon Hopkins - Music for Psychedelic Therapy
King Hannah - I'm Not Sorry, I Was Just Being Me (signed)
Hinako Omori - ...a journey
20220531_223536.jpg

Thank you to @Matt M and @zdkaiser for the PIF offers of Hatchie and Jon Hopkins, respectively. Saw Hatchie two Fridays ago and had a fun time; got it inked!
King Hannah made a stop into Portland last week, but the experience there was a bit bothersome from the crowd (or lack thereof). Still, I bought their debut record at the venue and requested Hannah to ink it.
I'm really hoping Hinako Omori tours the US soon. This record of hers is one of my tops for the year, and would be thrilled to experience it in a live, intimate setting. Bedazzling ambient with vocals...something that is criminally underutilized in the genre.

Ambient pickups

Joanna Brouk - The Space Between
Japanese Breakfast - Sable Original Soundtrack
Mkwaju Ensemble - Ki-Motion
Jessica Moss - Phosphenes
20220531_223808.jpg

Picked up this Joanna Brouk record on a whim a couple weeks ago after remembering adding it to my wishlist a few years ago. Beautiful blend of new age and modern classical.
Sable soundtrack was a DeepDiscount cheapie. A nice add to the humble soundtrack section; helps that the soundtrack is gorgeous (from the few tracks I have sampled).
One would argue that Ki-Motion is not especially an ambient record, but it is close enough. Creative marimba performances coupled with synthesizers...Midori Takada is involved in this!
After going on a "record buying excursion" before participating in a no-buy month starting today, I came away only with this Jessica Moss record. One of my late favorites from last year.

Jazz pickups

Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers - Moanin'
Kenny Burrell - Midnight Blue
John Coltrane - My Favorite Things
Ryo Fukui - Mellow Dream
Nala Sinephro - Space 1.8
20220531_224037.jpg

Got the BNClassics in for Blakey to compare to the 90s press I acquired from April. Have yet to test it out, a few letters away from reaching it in the playthrough.
One of the recent N&G RotMs, Kenny Burrell's Midnight Blue is a winner. Enjoyed it on a recent stream. Should be getting to it around the same time as the record mentioned just above.
After not having a copy of My Favorite Things (one of my top50 all time) for years after selling my WaxTime pressing, I bit on the recent Amazon sale price from a week ago. Can't wait to hear how this one performs; Discogs reviews are widely promising.
Traded in three records (one being a Target replacement) on a recent trip to Mississippi Records to get the Ryo Fukui record free of charge. Wasn't really looking for it, but just shrugged my shoulders and went with it.
Another favorite from last year, Space 1.8 is beautiful. A marriage of ambient and soothing jazz. A bit of a boring package, but hopefully the pressing is decent enough.

Miscellaneous pickups

Daft Punk - Homework
Have a Nice Life - Deathconsciousness
Rochelle Jordan - Play With the Changes
Sandro Perri - In Another Life
Emma Ruth Rundle - Engine of Hell
20220531_224336.jpg

New Daft Punk repress slaps. Sound quality is on point.
Got one of the latest Deathconsciousness represses on a splatter colorway; sounded decent enough. But given the history behind the recording, there's only so much that can be improved on given the limitations of the technology used to create the album.
It wasn't until April of this year that I revisited Rochelle Jordan's offering from last year, but I probably would've put this in my top50 if I spent more time with it. Got it as a cheapie from Target, which came on colored vinyl not mentioned in the listing. Excited to see her at Holocene next Thursday, should be a vibe!
As an extension from the stellar N&G RotM selection from @BjorgenFjorgen, I went with In Another Life for the final Bandcamp Friday. The title track is my favorite composition that he has made; well worth the purchase price alone.
Long needed, I finally have Emma Ruth Rundle's vulnerable, devastatingly compelling project from last year. Hoping for a US tour this or next year...still bummed about not seeing her Portland intimate gallery concert back in mid-April.

Yes, In Another Life is stunning! So glad to hear you're enjoying his music.
