I think I did alright at Good Will today…

$9.80 per sealed copy. They had three copies I purchased all three.

If anybody is looking for a copy for a copy of Lateralus keep your eyes peeled in the PIF thread. Though I am half tempted just to resell the all for $25 a pop and call it a day (but I am too lazy to actually to that).

You definitely spent less on those three copies than my wife did on my one! Very good score!!

I know they are not supposed to sound very good, but I would bite at 25.

I also got these at the same thrift store:

Positive: It's Wayne Shorter
Negative: It's 1980s Wayne Shorter
Still worth it for two bucks.

And if the people who are selling this on discogs are to be believed, this is worth a LOT more than $2. What's crazy is the record and cover are VG+ at least. It somehow survived 60 years in that condition, to say nothing of however long it was crammed in with all the usual split-seamed classical and gospel records that take over and overflow any thrift store's record selection. Holy cow.

Eric Dolphy – Out To Lunch! (Blue Note, 1964 First Mono Pressing)

Well here's my deal of the year! Last week I was browsing Ebay when I came across this album for.......£14.95. It certainly looked like a first pressing so I quickly put the order in and expected it to get cancelled. A few days ago it arrived in the post, opened it up and it is indeed a first mono pressing in stunning shape. Couldn't (and still can't) quite believe it. Goes to show there are still incredible deals out there to be had!!!

Well, this has been a pretty huge couple of weeks. After some back and forths, I ended up swapping and selling a big stack of records and ended up with a couple of dozen in return, plus some cash (some of which went on records).

The Bill Evans Trio - Portrait In Jazz (Riverside Records, 2019 Mobile Fidelity Limited 45rpm Pressing)
The Bill Evans Trio - Portrait In Jazz (Riverside Records, 1961 First UK Mono Pressing)
Eric Dolphy – Out To Lunch! (Blue Note, 1964 First Mono Pressing)
Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Teddy Charles, Mal Waldron, Doug Watkins & Elvin Jones - Olio (Prestige/Esquire, 1957 First UK Mono Pressing)

Well, this is a crazy one. After the whole MOFI digital scandal, I thought it was a perfect time to start looking and sure enough, I found this 2LP 45rpm copy of Bill Evans' 'Portrait In Jazz'. I left my number and an offer but didn't hear back for a while so I left it. The next thing I know I find an original UK pressing in stunning shape for a fraction of what it goes for, so I went for it. A day later and the seller of the MOFI got back to me saying he will accept my offer (go figure!!), and I couldn't really mess him/her around so I paid up and here it is. I plan on A/B testing and swapping/selling one. I mentioned the Dolphy yesterday so I won't go into detail again, but not bad for £14.95. Finally, a UK pressing of an album that I have been hunting down for years, Olio.

Frank Ricotti Quartet - Our Point Of View (CBS, 1969 First Pressing)
Tony Oxley Quintet - The Baptised Traveller (CBS, 1969 First Pressing)
Bob Downes - Open Music (Philips, 1970 First Pressing)
Ravi Shankar – Sound Of The Sitar (Fontana, 1966 First Pressing)
Joe Harriott & John Mayer Double Quintet - Indo-Jazz Fusions II (Columbia, 1968 First Pressing)
Clem Alford - Mirror Image (Columbia, 1974 First Pressing)
Ian Carr's Nucleus - Out Of The Long Dark (Capitol Records, 1979 First Pressing)
Ian Carr's Nucleus - In Flagranti Delicto (Capitol Records, 1977 First Pressing)
The Don Rendell Sextet And The Damian Robinson Trio - S/T (Tempo, 1955 First 7" Pressing)
Don Rendell With The Joe Palin Trio - Live At The Avgarde Gallery Manchester (Spotlite, 1975 First Pressing)

Here are most of the spoils! Some killer British jazz with some Indian music courtesy of Ravi Shankar! Really excited about these, some really tricky ones to find in this bunch and I'm going to have hours of enjoyment digging through them.

The Comet Is Coming - Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam (Impulse!, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Exclusive Pressing)
Ornette Coleman - The Shape Of Jazz To Come (Atlantic, 2022 Vinyl Me Please Classics Pressing)
Don Rendell - Live At Klooks Kleek (Record Collector Magazine, 2017 Limited Pressing)
Ezra Collective - Juan Pablo: The Philosopher (Enter The Jungle Records, 2017 First Pressing)
Basil Kirchin - Worlds Within Worlds (Columbia/Trunk Records, 2019 Limited Pressing)
Nucleus - Live In Europe 1970-1971 (Vinyl Lovers, 2009 First Pressing)
Chuck Wayne Quintet - S/T (Progressive/London Records, 1956 First UK Pressing)
Jutta Hipp And Her German Jazzmen - S/T (MGM, First UK 7" Pressing)
Hans Koller's New Jazz Stars - New Sounds From Europe: Germany (Vogue, 1953 First 10" Pressing)

Some killer new, reissued, and historical releases from VMP and others. The Ezra Collective was an album that I passed up on when it was first released and the resale market went mad, bumping up to close to £100 in some instances. A few years later and I was able to get this for less than its original RRP - crazy really. I have already listened to the Basil Kirchin (absolutely phenomenal), Ornette Coleman (VMP did a fantastic job IMO), and the Nucleus (great pressing of an energetic performance). The 2 10" and 7" releases were in really dirty shape when I bought them (which is why I think I was able to get them for a good price) and have now cleaned up fantastically!

Jackie McLean Featuring Gary Bartz - Ode To Super (Steeplechase, 1973 First Pressing)
Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis Quartet - Swingin' Till The Girls Come Home (Steeplechase, 1976 First Pressing)
Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners (Riverside, 1957 First 7” Pressing)
The Bear Comes Home by Rafi Zabor (Norton, 1998)
The Black Giant by Pauline Rivelli & Robert Levin (World Publishing Company, 1970)
A Night In Tunisia: Imaginings Of Africa In Jazz by Norman C. Weinstein (Scarecrow Press, 1992)

Finally, last week I visited Copenhagen for a few days and amongst some fantastic food, several gallery & museum visits, 'Culture Night', and miles of walking, I was able to pop into a couple of record and book shops and left with some spoils. I knew Jazzhus Montmartre was closed for renovations but I was keen to find a Steeplechase record (one of my favourite labels, born from the Jazzhus, with most sessions recorded live there) and managed to find 2! Plus more to add to my reading pile!

Who says you can't ever find anything good at a thrift store?

One store owner used to try and sell me this every time I went in ..no idea why ..he’d spot me flicking thru the racks , toddle over , and pull Bruce out the racks ..proclaiming “Did you know Bruce Willis made an album ?” ...

Every time I went In ....

The shop is now closed

Are you sure he wasn’t a ghost? Doomed to roam the corporeal plain until he sold one person a Bruce Willis record.
