Fresh Grabs

Michael Garrick Trio - Cold Mountain (Argo, 1972 First Pressing)
The Running Man - S/T (RCA/Neon, 1972 First Test Pressing)
Sonny Boy Williamson With Brian Auger & The Trinity, Joe Harriott, Alan Skidmore, Jimmy Page - Don't Send Me No Flowers (Marmalade, 1968 First Pressing)
Lee Morgan - Infinity (Blue Note, 1981 First Pressing)

It always pays to ask!!!! I have been after Michael Garrick's 'Cold Mountain' for a while now but have never even seen a copy in the flesh. I was chatting to someone about rare British jazz records that are a nightmare to find and he happened to say that he had a few for sale. I had a few but he wanted such a great price for them that I was tempted to double up (but didn't), but what I did get was....Cold Mountain! Actually, he had 2 more that I am interested in but didn't have them at the time of us chatting so he's going to bring them next week which is exciting. Yet another big hitter is Running Man's S/T release which I recently bought the reissue of (which is fantastic). This copy is the test pressing of the original 1972 release. Finally, a blues record that features saxophonist Joe Harriott and one of the last Lee Morgan albums that I was missing from his discography, 'Infinity'.

Haruki Murakami - First Person Singular (Penguin Books Ltd, 2021 Limited Pressing)

Here's an oddity that I wasn't expecting to find. I was looking through the racks at one of the record shops in Soho and saw this on the wall. Its a short story by Murakami narrated by Kotaro Watanabe, and is limited to 100 copies. It was a promo item that was given out with the first 100 purchases of the book so I guess its quite an oddity. I have been really enjoying Murakami's books in the past year so im really looking forward to listening to this!

Went to my first record fair since 2018. Picked up a few things, definitely with an 80s post-punk/synth pop flavour
A few $10 finds
OMD - Organisation
Tangerine Dream - Thief OST
Ginger Baker - Horses and Trees

Some $5 grabs
Human League - Dare
Simple Minds - Sparkle in the Rain
TV21 - A Thing Red Line

And a couple of cds for $5 each.
Pink Floyd - Echoes - greatest hits 2x cd with the tracks mixed to flow into each other
Mogwai - Central Belters - a 2x cd “hits” set with a 3rd cd of rare tracks. Looks like it was never played.

They’re fun. It’s like choral music crossed with the beach boys style symphonies. St. Vincent was a member for a while.
They look scary ...like the Manson family

all headed by the guy from Tripping Daisy, so it's also super trippy and noisey too. I'd describe them more as Flaming Lips with a church choir.

also not as scary as these guys:

With a record show on Oct. 1, this was always going to be a big month. First, the used grabs:

I’ve been weirdly enjoying this deep dive into Yes (it helps that their albums are dirt cheap). The Monk is a super clean mid-70s Japanese pressing. Of course I finally found an OG Mummer for $10 just a month after picking up the reissue. The only ones here that cost more than $10 were LCD and Vampire Weekend (and I was more than happy to pay $15 for Contra). The best deals of the bunch were probably Air ($4!) and the B-52s ($2). Oh, I also picked up this $1 mono Stones that plays far better than it looks:

As for new stuff, this latest Alvvays album has been living rent free on my turntable and is by very, very far my favorite 2022 release:
