Fresh Grabs

Ray Russell Sextet Featuring Harry Beckett: Forget To Remember Live Vol. 2: 1970 (Jazz In Britain, 2022 Limited Pressing)
Joe Harriott – Formation: Live '61 (Jazz In Britain, 2022 Limited Pressing)
Chris Laurence – Ken Wheeler: Some Gnu Ones (Jazz In Britain, 2022 Limited Pressing)

Usually I wait until the end of the week to share Fresh Grabs but I've done my fair share on waiting for these already. The Ray Russell was ordered at the beginning of March 2021, the Joe Harriott was ordered in July 2021, and Chris Laurence was ordered in October 2021. Material shortage, Brexit, and the pound tanking caused massive delays.

Flora Purim - Open Your Eyes You Can Fly
Roy Orbison - Mystery Girl
Warsaw
Kraftwerk - Tour De France 12"
The New Stan Getz Quartet - Getz Au Go Go

Brought some stuff to trade in so picked up a few things. I know they're not rare or anything but Roy Orbison was only 2 bucks and Flora Purim was 3! They were both stuff i meant to pick up anyhow.

A couple of parcels arrived from Japan today:

It's been a good week ...

INXS and the B-52's are Rocktober exclusives. Taylor Swift needs no explanation.

Al Green is an indie store exclusive on green vinyl, this Great White album has eluded me for years before I won one of those reverse raffs on Facebook! And I'm a sucker for any and all things Howard Jones.

Stoked to finally have Chris Isaak's San Francisco Days on vinyl! And the Coltrane was won in a PBC instagram contest - thanks @Ethos99

Does your San Francisco Days skip on side 2's first track?

If you haven't already done so, I'd recommend Brix Smith Start's autobiography, The Rise and the Fall and the Rise. Her recent albums with the Extricated are great as well.
Thanks, added to the reading and listening piles. Also noticed she did an album with Marty Wilson-Piper earlier this year. (edit: just realized this was recorded in '97 and released this year)

The Keith Tippett Group - You Are Here... I Am There (Polydor, 1970 First Pressing)
Roy Haynes Quartet - Out Of The Afternoon (Impulse!/His Master's Voice, 1963 First UK Mono Pressing)
Harry Beckett's Joy Unlimited - Got It Made (Ogun, 1977 First Pressing)
BBC Transcription Disc - The William Russo Orchestra (BBC Transcription Disc, 1965 First Pressing)
Ian Carr's Nucleus - Exit 1971 (678 Records, 2020 First Pressing)

After turning down some frankly insanely priced copies of the Keith Tippett Group's debut album over the years I finally managed to get a killer copy that was a steal! The Roy Haynes was a insanely lucky purchase that looks rough as hell but plays great. Harry Beckett and the William Russo Transcription disc were 2 more 'cheap heats'. Finally, the Ian Carr Nucleus 'Exit 71' is mainly sold in Europe and I have been waiting for a copy to come up, and Juno came to the rescue, although annoyingly both discs are warped.

Dizzy Gillespie And His Operatic Strings Orchestra - S/T (Blue Star/Esquire, 1952 First UK 10" Pressing)
Stan Getz - Stan Getz Plays (Royal Roost/Esquire, 1953 First UK 10" Pressing)
Jeremy Robson With The Michael Garrick Trio And Joe Harriott And Shake Keane – Blues For The Lonely (Columbia, 1963 First 7" Sample Pressing)

These early Esquire releases are fantastic (hand painted / printed covers) and usually don't pop up that often....they are 70 years old!!! A big hitter was the Jeremy Robson/Michael Garrick/Joe Harriott/Shake Keane 7" which has the added bonus of being a sample pressing.

Pink Floyd - Relics (Starline, 1971 First Pressing)
IF - IF 4 (United Artists Records, 1972 First Pressing)
The Harry South Big Band - Presenting (Mercury, 1966 First Pressing)

I was popping down to my local shop yesterday to get the Harry South album (line up includes - Ian Carr, Tubby Hayes, Ronnie Scott, Dick Morrissey, Phil Seamen, Gordon Beck....) and had a quick look in a charity shop only to find the Pink Floyd and IF (a jazz-rock group with Dick Morrissey) for £1 each!

Lockdown FM: Broadcasting in a Pandemic by Gilles Peterson (Mistral Productions, 2021)
Jazz & Blues Poster at the Arena Theatre, Birmingham (1970)

Finally, a cheap Jazz poster/handbill that might look nice framed (bet the Mike Westbrook and Graham Collier concerts were good!) and a fantastic book from Gilles Peterson that is earmarked for Christmas!

That’s quite a haul! The Tina Brooks is absolutely killer.

First one for me. Cleared customs as info about the teacking usually doesnt mean anything here with DHL , it always says that
I think mine was sent with DHL but like most packages from them it was handed over to our local postal service where they leave no doubt if you package has cleared customs or not.

As nice as it is for us, I can imagine it must be nice for Daupe and other UK sellers when they don’t have to refund VAT because of what is clearly a flawed system.
